Looks like a revisit is in order. The movie is worth another look see. |
Classroom scene explains some. If the train stops they all freeze and die.
However, I think providing purpose is as good as any reason I've seen. |
OK, so why would they freeze when the train stops?
|
It's probably just me but I couldn't stay awake for all of Snowdriver or whatever it is. I thought the movie was stoopid.

It's a movie so I guess it can't idle. Nursery school chant response when the teacher asks what if the train stops, "We all freeze and die" That's what they taught them so is it true or not? |

Well: Coors Light Silver Bullet Train > Snowpiercer
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8IZqRdznPs8" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> EDIT- On second thought, Coors light train IS snowpiercer. Everywhere Silver bullet train goes, snow falls. Left unchecked- runaway global cooling. Perhaps if they'd just STOP the train, the world would warm back up. |
I was not a fan of the movie so I guess the series is out too. If it is cold enough to freeze an arm solid to where you can break it off and 2 days later walk off the train?

The "Runaway Train" is a good movie though...
It's on Amazon Prime or Netflix right now... Good old Rebecca, what ever happened to her? |

Whatever mental picture you have of the plot from the trailer. Let it go. Here's the nursery rhyme teacher in the Snowpiercer movie. I found this and gotta post it somewhere. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1590603540.jpg |
So, the season ended, did anyone else muscle through it? It became generic TV sci-fi drama, putting character into absurd scenarios just to create tension. Stupid people acting stupidly, and generally forgetting that the entirety of humanity exists in that train, and that *maybe* being helpful ans friendly to every single person no matter what might be the best way to keep our species alive, at least for a few more years? Instead, they went with greed, and hate, and lots of bloodshed, and generally acted like a train full of people who hated the train full of people.

I thought I watched this movie 15 years ago?
|
I watched the first 2 or 3 episodes, then realized it was going to be another one of those series that just continues on and on, until ratings drop and it ends.
|
Why must the train be moving, because plot device.
|
I just watched it. Very interesting.
Caution: Spoilers ahead. I don’t know the director’s politics, I assume they are to the left (he did win an Oscar last year and I assume it’s a requirement these days), and yes it touches subjects of “inequality” “social justice,” etc., but not in ways you might think. I think the film is subject to several interpretations, which makes it interesting. Also, keep in mind it was made around 2013, politically a lifetime ago. A “far left” person in 2013 would be considered a centrist today. Anyways, the train is obviously symbolic of society. And yes, there are massive “inequalities” among the people in the train. But why is that? It’s certainly not because of capitalism or democracy, both of which are completely non-existent in the train. The political and economic system in the train bear no resemblance to the US or similar Western democracies. Instead, the political system in the train would seem closest to North Korea. It’s run by a Supreme Leader who is taught to be worshipped as a pseudo god. There of course is nothing resembling any kind of democracy, elections or representative government. People are told, over and over, that they are born into a “caste” (represented by the train they live in, and there is absolutely no hope of mobility. None of that seems anti-capitalist, in fact it’s quite the opposite. The film seems championed by the left, but I don’t get that. The society on the train is awful, but there’s no conservative principles at play there. In fact, it seems the opposite. One example: The school. They show the elementary school being taught. Of course, the schools are highly used for political indoctrination and there is only one point of view taught or allowed. Sound familiar? (One of the dogmas is that you can never leave the train, because the climate will kill you. Teacher: “What happens if we go outside?” Students in cheerful unison: “We DIE!!” Which of course turn out at the end to not be true). Oddly, the villainous Minister Mason character looked to me to be intentionally made to look like Ayn Rand, but if intentional that would make no sense at all. The director is South Korean, I don’t think he’s spent much time in the US. I don’t know how much he knows or cares about US politics. South Koreans seems to have bigger things to worry about right next door. Anyways, I liked it, it was interesting and IMO well made. Like Parasite, it has a quirky style and sense of humor mixed in. |
I of course am talking about the movie. I’ve read that the TV series is terrible.
