High like their income.

Suspect the folks still work in Manhattan but commute.

You’ll have to watch the video or read the article. It looks like a fun place to live

I have a few friends who have built bars at their homes. One built a full British pub.

How can you not be drunk every weekend with your own bar? And is that cool? IDK ...

I lived in an old golf course community in the LA suburbs. Houses from the 80s with many original owners. They all had a wet bar. We were invited in a holiday series of get togethers. These geezers were drinking cocktails until they fell off the bar stools. Amazing! I drank at the time but they were in a different league.

I really liked the video. The style and manner of it made me want to setup a garage bar and tables.

It's a good thing we are heading into winter around here or I'd do it. We have all sorts of laws around here. I'm sure Matt Smith will correct me, but if I was to do such a thing I would have to give away the drinks and pizza. Or people bring their own. There is a good garage band a few doors along and a big number of people walking by at night, so we cold have some rip roaring sessions here in the small beach town of Lyall Bay.

I like my five acres and distant neighbors. No town could be a good place to live IMHO.

Most of the featured “bars” are in Maplewood, NJ. Definitely a bedroom community for NYC, has a stop on one of the NJ Transit rail lines. Borders Irvington, which borders Newark, so its also a well to do oasis next to some of the less desirable parts of the state.

A typical NJ suburban enclave which attracts people from the city and more urban area (like Hoboken NJ), particularly people with kids who are looking for decent public schools. Property taxes for the average home probably well north of $20k/year.

Nice little town to live? Yes... best in USA? NFW, and I love NJ having spent most of my life here.

...also, being a car guy, I don’t understand people who ruin the ability to store vehicles in their garages. Absolutely unthinkable to me!

I agree, but I must admit those are pretty damn creative. Spending $100K on one though

When I was stationed in Germany in the 80's, I really enjoyed the concept of a neighborhood bar you could walk to. The combination of very limited/bad broadcast TV, wonderful summer nights that stayed light late, and the restaurant/bar that for all intents and purposes just looked like another house on the street were very appealing.

It was a better way to spend an evening that just watching TV sitting on the couch. So these are pretty cool, but a garage is for cars (or other rolling stock).

This.

I love beer, but my garage fridge is a little short dorm room version and three cars parked comfortably in the garage.

There’s also 3 very different towns in Maplewood.

Maplewood - Town Center, decent upper middle class homes, good restaurants, boutique shopping, etc.

MapleGood - 1% residences

MapleHood - Draw your own conclusions
