Trash bags...compostable,biodegradable
Living alone and composting I don't produce a lot of trash, but obviously I do produce some. I like most have been using those ubiquitous grocery bags for garbage but I want to try something better.
Does anyone here use compostable bags? The reviews I've read say that they're awful, thin and rip easily. I've looked for a paper alternative but they don't seem to exist. So what say ye?

We bought a giant box of bio kitchen bags. Believe the hype. If the bag was more than 1/2, full, it ripped religiously every time we would try to pull it from the bin . It got to where we were using them doubled . We fill about a bag a day in our normal routine ,
I was relieved when they ran out .

Good old brown paper bags are made from a renewable resource, trees, and recycled cardboard. And they will compost to soil in a short time.

I'm a bit of a liberal when it comes to trash, but don't tell the guys in PARF... I recycle the paper/plastics/metals, and have seperate bins for each. After that it's compost, but I have a very small compost pile by the garden.

I hate waste, I hate throwing things away. I don’t use compostable bags because I’ve heard the same thing Fred confirmed. We have accumulated enough reusable bags that we hardly ever need store bags. It would be great if store managers would educate baggers on how to minimize bag use. I got home from a shopping trip a few days ago and a plastic bag had ONE one pound package of butter in it. Another one had a half gallon bottle of laundry detergent - with its own handle.

We use the green compost bags and they are quite tough.

some (all?) compostable bags just break up into tiny pieces of plastic - may be a worse problem than intact bags
you may be able to find info on Gloggle |

I bought a box of the biodegradable dog poop bags. They're really terrible. Rip easily, super thin.

bummer, so maybe I'll just buy a pack of regular brown paper bags.

I never understood the point of biodegradeable poop bags... around here you can't put dog poop in the compost bin.

The trash is full of rotting food and other bad stuff. To the landfill. We have a compost of our own. When we pick up the crap from the back yard we toss it in the trash. Mostly the compost we have is for grass clippings, leaves and the stuff I shred. It comes from my shredder in small pieces, and quickly becomes something even the CIA or FBI could never reconstruct. It becomes soil.
