Old fridge gave up thje ghost...
and already replaced. I've scheduled to have the nasty bit removed but I'm wondering. Is there any value in or reason to remove the compressor as it is not the part that failed?

Do you have a licence for freon recovery and the correct (certified) equipment?

What would you ever do with it?
You can make a cheap (free) vacuum pump out if it, it you want to play with a bell jar. And just letting the gas out is a federal crime, but very unlikely you would be prosecuted unless you video it and post it on line. Still, not a good thing to do. I guess if you keep the compressor you can make a ping pong ball launcher. The plans are on-line.

I have a licensed guy coming to get the freon, I'm not doing it. I was just wondering if there was anything that would make it worth the effort to remove the compressor.

Only if you have some sort of use for it. It is like having a welder and not knowing how to weld, or any projects to that need welding.

If you paint with an airbrush you might be able to make a small aircompesor
