911s make people happy

Nice night for a drive. Been getting a lot of thumbs up in the last month or so but tonight was something else.

Lot of waves and smiles and thumbs up by pedestrians and cars at stop lights. Went into Boston to see Newbury Street (posh shops) which were all boarded up and humvees and military police aplenty. Strolling down the street in first with headers and a B&B, the Ferrari & Lamborghini crowded parked on the side all waved and smiled, a couple servicemen and random people gave a thumbs up. Going back home on Storrow Drive was pulled over by State Police, he wanted to know why I only had one seat, he loved the car. Go to a drive through for a throwaway dinner, getting my bag at the window and a young girl appears out of nowhere to say you have a cool car." It's a lot of fun I say.

Sounds like a great evening out!
Old Porsches do get a lot more positive attention than newer ones. Last time I got stopped in the 911 the officer asked why my tires were covered in pebbles and why my tachometer was in sideways and what is that yellow tape on my steering wheel for. He still gave me a $60 dollar ticket.
Last time I got stopped in the Speedster he just told me to slow down.

Now all you need to do is give it a real engine (a turbo poooowwwwwaaaahhhhh power plant), and along with the waves and thumbs up, you can get fellow motorists motioning you to roll down your window at stoplights to say, "Daaaayyyuuummmnnn, that son of a bisch really goes when you want it to!", like I do, bro (immediately following frequent, douchebag worthy flaunts of whiplash acceleration, of course)!!!

Agree, Shaun. I try to drive mine every other day or so--just happened to take it out last night as well. Like yours, mine currently has only one seat in it. I'm trying to install an RS carpet set, but don't want to take the car out of commission.

Made me happy. 42 years of working on them (and 944s, 928s, Boxsters, Cheyennes, etc. etc.) put my kids through college and retired me and my wife to a nice place. Made me happy. Thanks all.

It is funny how the older cars get smiles and waves. They definitely seem to avoid the “prick with a Porsche” stereotype.

If the Catorce cases ever ship, I'm building a 4.0L MFI motor for my car. I have to think Adam will be shipping cases by the end of the summer.

Here in NZ the " the “prick with a Porsche” stereotype" thankfully died with the 80's.

Mind you a young chick, very nice looking girl, called me an old wanker in a Porsche quite recently. So maybe it didn't so much die wit the 80's. Ah, ignore me I'm rambling.

A recent quote from my daughter whilst driving my 78SC!

"It's impossible to be unhappy in this car"

Hmmm. The only attention I ever seem to get in my 911 is a gesture via an extended middle finger. Maybe it's my driving....?

Heads turning, people noticing, people giving thumbs up, telling me what a cool car I drive...
These cars stand out.
