I am not, but my employer believes I am and prostitutes me as such. It certainly helps with compensation and credibility (even if not necessarily deserved). Often one attains the status by simply doing something a very long time...or with successful outcomes (regardless of personal impact).

Back to the original intent of the OP...IMHO>

Consider the thread, Anyone own a second property - how did you finance ?...if you do indeed own a second?

If one owns a second (or even a third) property and financed it, are they a dickweed masquerading as an "expert" because they respond or just someone relating their experience because it was asked for. Most would expect that the OP might have the ability to separate the wheat from the chaff...and would likely do further research based on what was proffered (and do what they thought best for them based on their individual circumstances).

Expert definition from my dad : A former drip under pressure. He used that term a lot.

NutmegCarrera 06-12-2020 08:21 AM

I know a fair amount about manufacture of adult diapers, bladder control products and Feminine hygiene product manufacturing. Pretty well versed about the products, how they perform and how to test them. My wife does not let me speak to anybody she knows....

I know enough to know what I don't know.

Not everybody can be as perfect as me. Or as modest.

vash 06-12-2020 08:58 AM

i am however, an AUTHORITY on exaggeration.

Not originally. You must have the "Mr. Fusion" conversion chamber.

cabmandone 06-12-2020 09:19 AM

I have a Ford Fusion chamber if it helps!

911 Rod 06-12-2020 09:23 AM

I could tell you, but then I'd have to …...

funny

I don’t see myself as an expert, but I am very rich, really good looking , highly intelligent and unbelievably modest.

Scott Douglas 06-12-2020 10:20 AM

My wife would claim I'm an expert at nothing.

Doing nothing to be more precise.

For years one of my standard questions to people I am chatting with is what do they do for a living. I never met anyone in that field. One friend was married to the sales rep for Kimberly Clark. She knew lots about paper products and how to seel them, but not the production of said material.

Likely the strangest profession I cam across was a guy that said he was the engineer for an exotic concrete company. I asked of course WTF is exotic concrete, and he said something to be poured for a runway when it is below freezing and other adverse conditions.

But now I'm an ex-pert.

That's a good one.

So many tasks are subjective in my world that I think expert status is only judgement.

Does that mean anything? Experts?

You may not be an expert but you are very wise.

KFC911 06-12-2020 10:30 AM

I have a con fusion chamber ;).

There was no "intent" for this thread... other than giggles and grins :)

If ya can't 'splain pompatus .... then yer just Mo :D

Carry on folks...

So many men these days are seeming incapable of simple, seemingly manly things like driving a stick shift or chopping down a tree...that it is hard not to get a little big for one's britches.

One of my wife's nephews youngest boy just turned 16 and the entire family is all trying to figure out what mechanic in town to take his car to so he can get the AC fixed. I was 37 before I ever owned a car with AC at all. And I quickly learned how to keep it running in peak condition.

He is at least buying the car with his own money with an loan from his great grandma. She said she did the loan to be sure that she would see him once per month.

Non of the members of that side of the family work on their own cars.
