In Oklahoma we are supposed to have proof of insurance and a copy of the tag registration. The police will have run the tag before they ever talk to you but they want it in the car. I just keep those in the glove box. Every few years I clean out the glove box and throw away all the old ones.

I also have scanned a copy of all of those and I have them on my cell phone in a app called AirDisk Pro. It lets me store any file from my computer on the phone in a password protected area, on a password protected phone.

I have not been pulled over in 30+ years so I have no idea what the cops really want to see anymore.

Ziplock bag in my glove box. On a motorcycle in a ziplock bag with the tool kit or other document nook. There always seems to be a place on a bike. DL and AAA car in m wallet.

I take a pic of my insurance card and carry it in the cell phone. Registration stuffed in the glove box.

I got pulled over for the first time in over 20 years a month or so ago. 47 in a 40.

I keep my insurance card (USAA) and registration in a zip lock bag in the pocket of my cars owners manuals. They all have them. I also keep a scan of my drivers license folded up with them.

That way, I grab the big owners manual pouch, no muss, no fuss.

I got off with a warning, btw. I have no idea what they were looking for.

Remember when the insurance agents gave you a nice little plastic keeper for your stuff?
I guess they were effecting profits.

I'll have to figure something out on my motorcycles.

I have 4 right now that are operable - all current on registration and insurance.

Those tool bags are under the seat but each brand/model has a different mechanism to lift the seat up, so if I were in a hurry (or nervous) I'd rather have them handier.

Right now they are in my wallet and I always have that with me so I'm good.

i have often wondered about the security of putting a document in the car with my address AND garage door opener.

any thoughts? i do have a big dog that could dingle-berry the perp.

Make copies, smaller if necessary and keep in your wallet, not in the vehicle.

The funny thing about the comment like mine and others who said "it's in the glove box" is, I'm pretty sure I read an article saying "don't do that" and it had something to do with thieves. I'll have to take a look and see if I can find it.

I quit putting registration papers in the glove box years ago. All my insurance cards are on my hand held computer.

I am such a rube. It never occurred to me not to keep the info in the car.

Well this is what I said in my opening post:

"Have always been told not to do this in case the vehicle is stolen but at this point I've never had a vehicle stolen and am thinking what the heck."

Which is where I am now.

I do that and keep a copy in my wallet.

Registration and insurance in the glovebox or under the armrests in the 911s, and in my wallet for the bike. Titles kept in house in firesafe. I also have an app with my insurance cards.

I keep the required documents in the car. Glove box in the Jetta, little drawer under the driver's seat in the Golf. I guess if someone is stupid enough to steal a 9 year old VW, they will be too dumb to find the house. The documents for the tractor are in a zip lock box taped to the ceiling of the cab. At least I think it's still there. Being a farm vehicle, it has a permanent registration.

Little plastic holder for insurance? My (very old school) office still does this.

Me? Just shove it in the glove box.

Except my Boxster doesn’t have one. That car has everything shoved behind a seat in the storage slot.
