Idiot 968 Driver
Perhaps he is a member of this Forum and he can give us his perspective.
Nevertheless, pulling a hot tub with what looks to be a $10 Harbor Freight dolly is irresponsible, stupid and criminal. I wonder if his “rig” damaged the hatchback frame. https://www.foxnews.com/auto/porsche-driver-ticketed-towing-hot-tub |
Probably an architect :D
|
It just goes to show that stupidity is universal.
I hope the ticket cost him more that renting a pickup or at least a trailer and doing it safely. |
More discrimination against Porsche and high end car owners.
If it was a Honda or an old truck, it would have never made the news. |

You folks clearly have no appreciation for ingenuity. "Necessity is the mother of invention"
And those knots tying the rig to the car? Niiiiiiiice. My dad would be proud of that! |
As a former 944 owner, I can say those cars can haul a lot of stuff. I really miss that little truck :)
|
The funny thing to me is that the person has a Porsche, bought a hot tub, but can't afford a proper trailer or ratchet straps to get the hot tub home? I wish the article stated how far he got from where he picked up the hot tub to where he got pulled over.
On a side note, I was down near Chillicothe on my way home from vacation on Rte35. I got behind a pickup with their 4 way flashers on. I jumped in the passing lane and as I passed I noticed the truck in front of him had a vehicle on a trailer attached to a truck... that was being towed by another truck. Solid! |
That stunt would have bumped my YT channel.
|
I think he got the hot tub for free and was trying to keep his investment costs down to a minimum.
Even the guys around here hauling stuff down to Mexico do better than that. |
He didn't want the water splashing out into his car.
|
I've hauled a dishwasher in the back of my 944, and a bunch of 4x8 plywood and sheetrock / also transported cobblestones/ back in the 'day'
|
he should be forced to sell his 968 and drive a 924
|
Cue Jeff Foxworthy "If you've hauled plywood in the back of your Porsche..." :D

Hey, it's a classic
"A driver in Woodstock, Canada, was pulled over this week when police spotted him towing a hot tub behind his classic 1990s Porsche 968 sports car with a handmade rig."

On the subject, who the hell gave the author of this the authority to elevate a 968 to "classic" status? |
I wish it were me...that would mean my car is running and driving

Meanwhile, our own Black968 has been suspiciously quiet on this topic.

Hey man, this is racism against the 4 banger 9x4 platform..
Y'all is just jealous bout the platforms ability to turn into a High Speed pickup truck. I'm actually in the market for a 924 or 944 just for that reason.. the huge real estate behind the driver... In the old days i hauled an entire 911 in parts around with my 924 and 944.. Try putting the bonnet of a 911 in a Volvo Estate : Won't fit ! Fits fine in a 9x4 tho. Try putting a completely built 911 Long Block in the back of a volvo.. good luck ... I did it in my 924.. Engine crane, lift.. push over to the 924.. and drop as you push forward against the open hatch.. Landing Even got a speeding ticket as I drove home my dual engined 924 that day! It's envy, and racism by the flat six crowd. I tell ya! |
^^^^ Well... it wasn't a white Audi wagon either :D

Weeelllllll... When I moved from an apartment into my new house I hauled a 5 foot tall potted ficus tree in my Speedster because it was the only vehicle I had that would carry a 5 foot tree standing up. Had to take the passenger's seat out. Yes, I might be a redneck. :o |
The engineering concept looks eerily familiar. Granted, this contraption is on the rear of the vehicle and appears to be designed for only temporary use, versus a more permanent-type solution being mounted to the underside of the front. Plus, this is a 968 and not an air-cooled 911, but still, the engineering similarities are undeniable.

You could probably get away with that around here. Just put a red rag back there, and if stopped, say you are utilizing your wheelie bar.
|
Frankly I don't think that was actually possible to get far with that rig. The really narrow track of the dolly and the high COG makes it hard to believe that the tub wasn't about to tip over just being parked at the side of the road at the slight angle it is.
Rounding a corner would have been impossible. Something is up here and I think it involves the cop and his dept's FB account. Look under the hand truck and you will see 2 things: a swivel caster turned sideways so that it would be skidding and there are no tracks in the gravel; and an unidentified object propping the rig up from underneath almost dead center on the hand truck. I scanned a dozen sites with this story and there is only one picture (the one I show) and a video from a motorist passing by. This stinks. https://scontent-sjc3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...b1&oe=5F14B419 |
And he would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling cops!!!! :D
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1592667886.jpg ...I agree, I bet there is more to this story than meets the eye. Cueing Paul Harvey. |
Good casters, Bob mused casually lighting a cigarette, but certainly not great casters.......

Would have loved to see those little wheels overheat at speed and cause a flaming hot tub being pulled down the highway. And I thought 914 owners were cheap.

Interesting observation about the gravel shoulder. No tracks whatsoever.
