Ahead of it's time
I know, a trite phrase used about cars all too frequently. But sometimes it fits. Designed and made during an era when American taste in cars was for big land yachts with acres of chrome and (in '55) hints of tail fins.
Just look at it...I loved the informative and easy to read dash...an American corporation making a car with European styling. No wonder it was doomed to fail. (about 7 minutes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0ucl7tz_LA&feature=emb_title

My father had a '53 Studebaker Starlight Coupe for several years (he sold it in ~1971, before I knew what it was). He always talked about that car. I've only seen 1 or 2 "in the wild" - low, sleek, clean lines - I have often looked for one as a project.

I think my dad said that my uncle used to drag race a Studebaker Silver Hawk.

Had a good friend as a kid... he called them 'Stupidbakers'....
Then his dad bought a supercharged Golden Hawk. No more Stupidbaker jokes from him. Then another friend's dad bought a new supercharged Avanti... wow. |
