Corona virus travel restrictions/quarantine ?
My wife and I live in Georgia but are originally from upstate NY . Every year we drive back to NY to visit family . My sister in law lives in NC with her husband , they also plan on driving up this weekend as are we .
Yesterday NY per their " gov website " is stating that folks coming from NC will have to quarantine for 14 days once they cross into NY . The website is very vague about inforcement the way I read it is there may not be any enforcement . While Georgia is NOT on the NY website as of last night it could be added ( guessing ) due to recent spikes in the virus. Our plans are to just visit family with minimal contact with others . When we are out like getting gas for car will be wearing a mask and hand sanitizing . Anyone have any additional data/comments on the 14 day quarantine ? Last thing I want is to get stuck there . Thanks in advance . |

They were talking about it on TV here yesterday. They really have no way of enforcing it especially if you are driving in. They have no way of knowing when you arrived in the city or if you did not already quarantine. They said they are working with the airlines to identify people coming in from certain states but did not mention driving in. I really doubt they will be able to enforce this at all. I will not say why he is doing this as this is not PARF but I would not worry about it if I were you.

I agree that the main focus is with airline traffic and that is easier to enforce . My concern is regarding the 10K fine !!! I agree drive in enforcement is difficult but with my luck I will get the fine 😡 . The fine per the website is for violators ....... .... how that is determined is anyone's guess 😁

Have you ever been in a parking lot in a shopping center and seen parks with signs that say something like "this parking spot for Bob's Rug customers only. All others will be towed." Again, it's a deterent. Unless the park is right in front of the shop, they have no way of knowing, and they are unlikely to alienate customers that way.

All the tolling in Maryland have gone to 'cashless' tolls. You either have an RFID EZ pass or the cameras read your license plate and send you a nice micro bill in the mail.
Given that only so many routes can get thru without having some sort of toll mechanism, it would seem that difficult to 'track' travel.

I expect that enforcement would be very difficult but... recently one of the most common ways this thing gets spread around is family gatherings, birthdays, funerals. If someone in your extended group comes down with symptoms, the contact tracing and mandatory quarantine might trigger a travel fine. Chances are low but greater than zero.

Mandatory 14 day quarantine for travelers no matter what - it’s impacted my ability to travel for work of course (we’re working around it for now) but it’s absolutely wreaked havoc on the local economies and tourism. Yes it’s effective at controlling the virus (look at NZ) but worth the cost? I guess time will tell (but my money is on “no”). Gov Ige is pretty ruthless with enforcing it too... lots of “rat out your neighbor” incidents. People have been fined and jailed (yea go figure...) for it.
Thanks China! |

Welcome to Orwell's 1984 and the lock down of the sheep. The Fascists are taking the Republic down with them and folks that need to work or travel for pleasure are being abused. Why subject yourself to this abuse when you are to be fleeced for your travel. I will not give them the opportunity to fleece me for the pleasure of entering their Fascist States.

No way of enforcing that obviously unconstitutional recommendation.

My daughter-in law left for Canada to visit her husband two days ago. He was due to move to the US permanently in September, but now the US won't let him in under any circumstances. Ontario is under a 14 day quarantine for all visitors and she was required to put an app on her phone that lets them track her whereabouts. Her entry paper states where she is going and if she deviates from the route they slap her with a $2000 fine. She has to stay a minimum of 16 days - two days of travel and 14 days in one place.
I guess bottom line is if you gas up at the state line and go right to your destination and stay there you are considered quarantined - at least by Canadian standards. I don't know how NY would track someone's movements if they fly in from Texas or Florida. The first violation is $2000 if they catch you. I would keep a record of where you go, routes, stops, etc.

Didn’t look it up but I heard on the radio that if you provide a test that you are negative, you’re ok.

The $10K fine is if you disregard the quarantine and infect another person with the China Virus. How they will determine that is beyond me. There are so many out of state plates running around here with those scamming the insurance companies enforcement would be impossible

My son is having an event wedding in Telum Mexico over the labor day weekend and I am having anxiety over this - traveling out of the country. I plan to take that week off and I will do some research on health insurance coverage for the trip. I certainly will follow the recommendations (I'm 70 yrs old).
I'm still working and I talked to an HR person and if I went to Mexico today - I would need to self quarrentine for 10 days. Things could change - There are just harsh realities out there.
