Lincoln Mercury

Mebbe one of the best track cars ever ... '78 Lincoln Mark V!

Whatever happened to S. Britches ?

Gonna cruise up & down the road... with the Blues too!

Peak Lincoln Mercury was the early 70s when they sold Panteras. A neighbor owned the local dealership and had a brand new white Pantera that would be idling in the driveway as we walked past on our way to school. A lasting impression

LOL! I remember that. And it hadn't even clicked that I hadn't seen any S.Twig posts in a while.

actually not that long. Last post was July. But not many posts this year, about 1 a month until July.

I suspect I've covered this before. I 'd love to have an old Mark III & IV. I like them for all the things a sports car isn't, the look of luxury, the plush bench seat, and the cloud-like ride. To me it's the perfect girl car, which is kinda funny since it was marketed to men. Then again, it was 1973 before a woman could get a credit card in her name only.

But not...? Come on, how could anything be more plush and floaty than...

I wouldn't mind being Jack Lord with a Park Lane, but I'd prefer an XR7 GT-E with the 428.

Always liked Cougars. Neighbor had a blue XR7 with a black top. Great looking car with good power from a 351.

As for Continentals... I'd go Mark II or VIII.

My first cat was a Cougar. I blew up the 351 and replaced it with a 400 with a cam. It was fast… in a straight line…

My dad's '70 Cougar with a 351 was mine to drive at 16 when Frampton Came Alive ... and they shot off a bunch of fireworks too

I already had a few years on country private roads, etc. with him so I lived

Gold colored ... it was a hoot

I had a '70 Cougar XR-7 with a 351C-4V that was the right amount of luxury and performance. I did quite a few engine mods, the car was quick for its time. Triple black too. Loved that car. My sister had a '71 XR-7 in yellow with a white interior and white half vinyl top, she was pretty fast in that car.

Our driver Ed. car was a 4 door Meteor. What a beast to parallel park! My biggest problem with it was on the highway. I was used to driving a farm truck with no power steering. In the Meteor with a tiny wheel and no feel, I was all over my lane and had to learn to steer with just my fingertips.

Meteors are usually super stable and hard to get off a straight line.

My late ex-mother in law had a 1970 XR7 with the 351. That was the first car I remembered having radial tires from the factory. You could light them up a will! Awesome car for the times.

Cougars made decent looking race cars, back in the day!

I had forgotten I had a model of that funny car.

There's a Cougar of that vintage for sale about 20 minutes from here.

Mom had a 1973 Mark IV that was identical to this one. I remember it had a 460 in it and would do a hell of a burnout!!!

This scene caused an uproar after Goldfinger came out in 1964. Wasting a car like this was unheard of. They removed the engine before they crushed the car, though. One of these would be high on my list for a classic American car.

Back when there was no mistaking an American car! Just the audacity... Love it!
