Personally, I wear a simple loose fitting mask but am not convinced it isn't doing more harm than good. For one, I find myself talking louder so others can hear me and it's not even the multi layer mask tightly wrapped around the face, so I can't see how that's not increasing the risk to others, my point being it isn't always a win and this is only one example given there are other considerations like this.

I stopped reading with the first alarmist agenda laden exaggeration:
"The disease has overwhelmed healthcare" - wrong! There have only been spikes is some places for a short period of time. The only way to make a statement like that is to cherry pick your data.

Yeah... given the authors' qualifications, they could have kept the healthcare opinions to themselves but the current "scientific" environment is what it is. Besides that, the airflow study is interesting.

Before they started suggesting masks for Gen Pop, I was wearing a tight fitting mask ,double folded, I use to shield my face while hunting. I put a simple paper towel inside doubled up after my wife explained if you can blow out a match at 12" or less, the mask isn't adequate. My doubled up mask failed that test but with a paper towel as an added filter, I couldn't blow the match out at 6". Even the homemade cloth masks are better with a simple paper towel folded and inserted as a filter. This isn't a burdensome thing to do and if you consider the alternative of another shutdown, it's the least costly thing that EVERYONE should do to keep us moving forward.

There was a time when we, as Americans, would identify an enemy and do all we could to defeat that enemy. Well, the enemy has been identified and we're too busying arguing politics and other nonsense to attack this thing head on and defeat it.

Raw', couple of suggestions ... improve the airflow, install a plexiglass barrier, wear a face shield wipe it down often.

CDC also agrees masks are not a substitute for social distancing.

. . .

I at least have the ventilation aspect covered - several barrel fans going at all times to try and remain upright in the godawful heat. Plexiglass barrier not realistic in this setting, and a face shield might melt to my face and the ladies would be upset if such a specimen was marred like that!!! :D

There's one goofy bisch that comes by that does just that, CabsSuckBiggly - bisch must think that talking to someone includes leaning in for a kiss. Fackin irks me to the bone (not like THAT!), but thankfully, he has not been by in several months.

Get rid of the Red Bulls Rawknee!

Rawknees'Turbo 07-01-2020 06:14 PM

It's so fookin' hot and humid here now that maybe the virus will have enough sense to fly away on its on (different than, "just suddenly disappear one day" :D) - the "low" tonight is 80, which means it might drop to 80 for ten minutes at about 4 am. One could go outside anytime throughout the night and immediatly start sweating ballz, just standing still! I'm going to set new personal records for biggly kilowatt consumption; biggly yuuuuugggeeeeee electricity billz for me!

A proper mask will protect you from catching the virus thru the mouth and nose and this is a N95 mask (or higher, like N99 or nanomask) as it filters micron particles. It has the proper fabric/material to do this (spun PP). CDC doesn't want the public to wear them cuz it will cause short supply and is overkill. Social distancing and hygiene is the best method. Just stay away from ppl. Unfortunately we need to eat and going to the grocery store, you meet ppl. The bich is that we have s**theads and yay whoos out here that dont' really care about other ppl. I'm ok if you don't care, just don't act like a dork and go trying to talk to ppl or spit or sneeze without covering up, that is just rude. I know it's a free country but we still have decorum and a sense of politeness in public. Enuf of that soapbox. For compromised immune systems, i wouldn't take a chance, i'd wear a n95. If you don't have a compromised system a simple surgical mask will prevent you from spreading it. Get the 4 ply mask, not the cheapie 2 ply at the dollar store or 3 play at Menards. The best bet is to be smart and stay away from crowds, especially crowds indoors. BTW the interesting part is if you look up the 3M made N95 mask, it actually says "not for medical use" WTF?

Sneezing with a mask on is like *****ting your pants with your face

If only that statement was accepted by everyone.

I rest my case.... " Woman who coughed at two paramedics and said 'I have the virus' is jailed for six months"

and did y'all noticed I purposely said "we" as in apolitical, a-religous, a-Culture-al and a-weapon? you can still believe in all of that and still have decorum and a sense of politeness in public.
