Shop first aid kit, what's your go to?

I cut my finger on a nice sharp piece of metal today changing out some pins on a machine. I didn't even notice I was cut until I saw blood all over my right hand. The cut was on my left pointer finger and the blood was slinging when I swung the hammer I was using. After I wrapped it in a paper towel and put some electrical tape on it I thought to myself "this is a Pelican OT thread if ever there was one!" Not to mention it's kinda "Vashy"

I didn't take any pics of the "Mandaid" but you can imagine. So what's your go to. I'm guessing there will be more of my solution.

Yep, BTDT, paper towel and whatever is handy. Eventually it'll probably get a regular bandaid.

I wrap it juuuuuuust tight enough that it stops leakin after a while. Then I'm careful to leave a little of the paper towel on the cut so it doesn't go back to leakin.

Hey, it works if you cut yourself while shaving!

I have one of these boxes that screws onto the wall. I won't go into detail about our bloodiest incidents.

Is there at leas a roll of duct tape in it? I'm fairly sure the adhesive on duct tape has healing properties as well as some sort of cleansing ability.

I will say, those steri strips are kinda nice to have around.

I'll put it this way - we used the large cloth that came in it as a tourniquet. Duct tape would not be your friend in this case.

I’ve made “bandaids “ with what ever I had on hand...paper towels, rags, etc with blue painters tape, duct tape, etc. You just gave to improvise and carry on.

I have a bathroom in my garage. I keep a box of bandaids in the medicine cabinet. I usually just wrap it real tight around the wound to stop the bleeding, and keep working. I do the cleanup when I am done with the project.

Yes, the game plan is to stop bleeding and to keep it clean. The great thing about duct tape is you can have it applying lots of pressure to stop bleeding.

I tend yo use masking tape myself. A bit mamy pamby but it works.

I used to double up the duct tape so the non stick side was up, I'd put the that over the cut and then tape around that so it wouldn't pull the cut back open when taking the tape off.

Dirt. As in "rub some dirt on it and get back in there".

I have some rubbing alcohol in the garage to clean things so a splash of that to wipe away the cooties and then if no bandaid, a piece of paper towel and some kind of adhesive tape to apply pressure until the bleeding stops. Take two ibuprofen and get back at it.

You use the tape to pull it closed.

Take two strips of tape, one attached to either side of the laceration. Apply traction on the tape, perpendicular to the cut and pull the edges together. Repeat as necessary. For head laceration, if they have hair you can take hair, use it to pull edges together, then tie it.

I have a home made first aid kit that is fairly extensive. IV start kits, tubing, fluids. The wife is allergic to bees, so I have epinephrine, suture and the kit to use it, variety of bandages, compression wraps.

Handy thing to have all that stuff available, has saved a fair number of trips to the ER

I keep a few bandaids for cuts that are stubborn and don't stop bleeding easily. I also keep the straps that are applied over the bandaids from my blood drive donations. I cut about 8" or so off and wrap gently around the bandaids on finger tips to keep them in place.

Damn, I just use a paper towel and blue tape or duct tape. Then get back to work.

Has anyone ever considered the antiseptic value of cussing? I think it should be studied. I've cut myself pretty good several times. Cussed like a sailor! Never really cleaned the cut, just wrapped it up and kept going. Never got an infection. I'm thinking it was the cussing.
