Do you think I can modify thus to extend my truck bed for kayak?
I have the Thule T2 classic. I need a bed extender for carrying a kayak.
I know Thule doesn’t the make a retrofit kit, but it wouldn’t be difficult FOR THEM. maybe I should just buy the HF version for $60. But I can’t help but think there’s a easy way to pair the two concepts. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593812623.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593812623.jpg |
I made something similar and also used the hitch receiver. It was a flat platform but with a alight V -shape 2x4 the the Kayat. It was higher because I travel with the tail gate up so my crap don't coming flying out in the fwy

yuunz aint no man ifn yaz caint make sumpin outta angle irn, rebar n duck tape!

I've seen the one made out of square tubing that fits the receiver. Add a gusset where the 90° before it goes up to hold the kayak. Add a flag and be on your way.

$80 amazon.

Exhibit one: One ugly arse HF rear extender :D:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593816842.jpg + Exhibit two: Some sort of roller mounted on top of extender (not necessarily this one but you get the idea. I'm sure there are some boat specific foam padded ones to mount on a dock or something somewhere): https://www.ultimationinc.com/replacement-parts/buy-rollers/heavy-duty-roller-with-bracket/?utm_source=adwords&device=c&kw=&matchtype=&placem ent=&location=9008342&network=g&devicemodel=&gclid =EAIaIQobChMIhJ-cupWy6gIVB5yzCh1ptwtxEAQYAyABEgI3W_D_BwE Just do that for $80 bucks and be done with it. I get what you are saying about having both options integrated into a THULE or YAKIMA. BUT.... They would charge an arm and a leg for it AND even if they did make it, it's not like you could use both simultaneously to take your boat/bike on a trip. Sometimes the cheaper bike racks work better- less proprietary shaped stuff. here's mine (modified to fold up)- but even so, you can't use the bike rack/ boat carrier at the same time. You could certainly find a cheap one like mine on CL and mount it to the HF extender. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593817257.JPGy |
Why the need to support the kayak at all? only a few feet are cantilevered.. ?
Anyhow, Not sure how on your trucks beds is...My truck has an 8' bed, and with the gate up, kayak on an angle from passenger side to drivers.. I can see the overhang in my mirror, and adjust my driving as needed.. BTW kayak is upside down in my truck |
One roof rack on the cab and a fabricated thingie for the back. It wold be easy to lift on as you could put it on the back, climb on the back, then lift it onto the roof and back rack.

... and because after a long day biking/boating, you are going to need a hot tub!

Wrong concept to contemplate. Your goal is to catch more fish, and you think you are going to sneak up on them. Wrong.
What you need is a $65K bass boat with 300hp. You have to haul ass and surprise them with your boat equipped with a trolling motor, fish finder, gps, rod holders, multiple tackle boxes, G Loomis rods and Shimano reels! You can't half ass fishing. Seriously, where the hell are you going to put the beer cooler on kayak? |

For when he uses the same thing to load heavy things into the bed.
-Add a shorten sleeve/pin to change angles. -Add a store-able full ramp. -Add a ground jack support. -Whatever. |
