Revenge is a dish best served cold
Almost two years ago, I won a small claims case against the reprobate schyster who sold me my sailboat. (great boat, badly rigged). He appealed, then I beat him again at the Court of Queen's bench.
SWEET... won in small claims court He paid in full, but I was still pretty pi$$ed. He had been clearly in the wrong and just refused to man up and make good on his end of the deal. Even during the proceedings, he would cuss and swear during breaks. It was fun at that stage because he was obviously going to lose. Anyway, after his money cleared I posted about it on my website. Then I did a few basic things to get it to pop up in google. Then, a few months ago I got some reciprocal links that really bumped it. Now, when you google search his name, my site is the first page you get. His classified ads are on the second & third page of results. Yesterday I got this email: Quote:

Im curious how, if the boat was so poorly rigged you didnt notice something was off? Standing rigging have hidden corrosion or what?

I am happy you had a good outcome. Having said that when you purchased the boat did you have a ppi done on it? Or did you use just your own judgement?
I am not that familiar with boats but I thought it was buyer beware... |

The answer to his question was unchanged.
And I knew it was old, that's why I replied earlier that Jake doesn't seem to be here much.

lol that is quite a bump!!
I renamed that boat Ms Fortune, sailed it for a couple years, and sold it back around 2012. It was more boat than I needed, and I bought a hobie 16, which was a bit TOO small, and not kid friendly at all. I bought a McVay Minuet, which is an 18' daysailer with a full ballast keel. Really slow and ponderous, but just fantastic for kids. It's spent a few summers on land, but it's also been a boat that gets used A LOT when it's in the water. ![]() ![]() ![]() It is SO slow though, and last fall I bought a hobie 18 to spice things up a bit. It was good inspiration for me to lose 20lbs and get lazer eye surgery.

I think you could classify what Jake did all those years ago as "calling out a bully". If I recall correctly the sellerhad basically said F U and walked away.
New Brunswick isn't that big. You're not gonna walk that far. Sure there was a risk. But sometimes you have to do what's right, for you and your community. Those are happy looking kids, Jake! The Minuet is a lovely boat. I've sailed a Bluenose class a couple of times, but because my mooring at low tide has less than a couple of feet of water, keel boats are not an option. Too bad because a local fellow is selling a Nordica 16 for a good price and I have always admired that boat. After foolishly selling my old Skunk about ten years ago, we ended up raising my now 7 year old grand daughter. Last summer I started looking for another dinghy and a month or so ago found another Skunk. I am administering TLC to the poor neglected thing, but should have it (and the grand daughter) on the river in a few weeks! I still owe you a dinner. Best Les
