.357 revolver!

Before the whole virus thing a local sporting goods chain had the Springfield XD9 on sale with three extra mags and a range bag +/- $400 so I grabbed one.

I also have Ruger PC9 to go with it... and Ruger SP100 .357... and a 870... and a Ruger .22 target pistol

Like the Sig P356 for a pocket pistol but can't justify buying one  A Taurus G2C maybe ;) :D

Foiled again! Gotta be 21 to buy pistol ammo! Rifle and shotgun, 18.

wdfifteen 07-28-2020 07:44 PM

Where do you even get a Glock 17 these days? Local dealers are out of stock and don't know when they'll have any.

^^^ Plenty of online sources/vendors (who will ship to your local FFL).

If OH allows FTF private party sales, I'm sure the local Armslist has plenty.

Glock has an extended 32 round mag but that just seems excessive. Glock and Springfield offer a 19 round which seems about right. I put a Springfield Xd in my hand today and it fit nicely. It's a full size 9 not a compact. I like the feel of the full size pistol better in my hand. A lot of guys talk about Glock having a tendency to jamb, definite negative if true. I like a grip and trigger safety and want something with a rail to add a laser. My nephew has a Glock 9 with a grip laser that's pretty sweet but it feels short in my hand.

Budget for just the weapon is $600 or less. What say the brain trust?

just get a single stack... a 1911 feels very good in the hand.. i don't have bighands either, but a 1911 feels great.
and if you can't drop the perp with 7+1 rounds of 45.. as a civvie.. you need to move to a better neighborhood or improve yer shooting.

LOL... I purchased my Marlin .30-30 when I was 18.... couldn't buy ammo for it though...

Damn those Thompson Contenders :(

Welcome back Scott :)!

Rural King in Van Wert Ohio. I believe Dunhams in Lima has them and Stock and Field too.

Por_sha911 07-29-2020 06:32 AM

Dunhams has been running sales on 9mm for two months but has literally none in stock. I even call when the truck comes in: nope, none in this shipment...

I popped in on Monday after the person in the firearms department said they'd be getting some 9mm ammo in. Ended up there were two whole boxes of 9mm in the entire shipment. Stock and Field had plenty in stock yesterday. The 115gr sold out in Blazer but there was oddly plenty of 124gr remaining. 115 Federals still on the shelf today. Only $2 more. I grabbed some 115 Blazers yesterday and some 124's today.

BTW, around here if you call, some of the Dunham stores aren't saying when they'll be getting trucks in. A store in Defiance had people getting angry so they just tell people "check back throughout the week"

If you were talking the pistol itself, Dunhams in Lima and Defiance had 9mm's in stock. While I was waiting to see if they got any ammo in, I looked at a nice Beretta 9mm they had in the case.

They don't ship to NJ :(

Mike Andrew 07-29-2020 08:26 AM

Just ordered a Walther PPS M2 LE.
Damm, it's not easy to find a 9 CC gun these days. And a PITA trying to find ammo for the thing, as well. Limits on quantity and such when you do find it.
Read an article about Remington being bankrupt that stated that gun sales March - June had increased by 30%, or 1,000,000 per month. If accurate, WOW!!

flatbutt 07-29-2020 08:36 AM

I bought the S&W 686 a month ago and just waiting for the papers to clear but I can't find any .38S to feed it.

Por_sha911 07-29-2020 10:28 AM

I need to move to OH. You guys have ammo and its cheaper.

I would call Dunhams and they said next truck isn't until Monday. When I call Monday they say not till Thursday. I called Thursday and they said the truck came in Tuesday and now they are out. Grrrr. I said fine, I will call every stinking day to see if a truck came in. Last time they had some it was 2 boxes of +P HP. The local shops either are out or want $20-24 for a bag of 50 115 grain targets. Crazy.

I know this will pass eventually. All the people that panicked and bought a gun because of the fear-monger MSM will eventually sell them or pack them away after 1 or 2 visits to the range.

Let me look. I have some, I think, and I don't shoot the pistol since it is an antique - Colt Navy Officers Model - more than once a year.

I have plenty of the stuff I need so I can ship.

I ran into the same thing locally. I sucked it up and bought two boxes for $18 each so now I'm cost averaging my way down. I'm going to keep buying when I see it for less than $11 per box or if I find a deal on a 1000 round bulk I'm gonna grab it. I mostly want to have enough brass so I can have rounds on hand and some to reload.

Update:
I got the laser round and stand today. The stand for the phone is nothing special and can be bought on Amazon for less. I took about 100 "shots" with it at about 15 feet. I could see where the shots hit the target and then compare to what appeared on the phone screen. It seemed pretty accurate for where I saw the majority of the hits. The phone app did show a couple that sailed high left which I didn't see when shooting but that could be due to a bit of movement after I fired. If I focused on form and follow through, I didn't have any sail. I'll keep practicing with this and then hit the range for some live fire!

cabmandone 08-01-2020 05:50 PM

Here's what it looks like. The spots appear on your phone screen which is pointed at the target. You screenshot it and then you can clear the dots from your phone screen and start over. I'd be pretty happy if I can match that target with live rounds.
The high left doesn't make sense to me because I watched every "shot" for where the laser hit the target. But still overall kind of fun. I think one of the laser targets might be my next purchase to go along with the laser round. They can be bought fairly cheap on Amazon and Ebay.

That's kinda cool. What is "fairly cheaply"?
