You can never have too much ammo .... unless you're on fire or in the water.
|
It would depend on why you are on fire...

So here it is! If my groups aren't absolutely terrible, I might post a pic of my target when I'm done shooting tomorrow.

It is my opinion that one should not worry so much about your groups right now. Get everything on paper then tighten up. The way I see it is if I get everything in a 6 inch circle then they are all stop shots.

+1 to Flat
Think about it, put a 8.5x11 piece of paper in the center of your chest. Anything that hits the area of paper is going to hurt. Nice looking piece of hardware. That is one long grip. What is mag capacity? |

You are smart enough to "know" what fits. I like the 1911 style rake/grip. It fits my hand nicely. A lot of this is exactly how it fits with your hand.
|
Congrats on the new gun! It is good you bought something that fits you well. A lot of compromises are made "to also carry" a gun even if that hardly ever happens. By now you guys know I am a fan of Paul Harrell. He has a lot of no frill demonstrated wisdom on this subject as well. Have a look at this three part series.

Shot it today. First impression is that the trigger is a little heavy but I'm so used to my hunting rifles going bang when I think bang so I think it's just going to take some getting used to. There seems to be a lot of travel in the trigger as well. But again it's my first time shooting it. I'm going to try to go out again this week a few times to get better feel for it and to improve my grip and stance.
|
As a rule, the trigger will get a little lighter after a 1000 rounds. I don't know about yours but Glock has trigger mods (lighter springs) or custom triggers. I'd start with running a 500 rounds through it and cleaning it really well.
|
I think some of my issue can be overcome with getting the proper stance for shooting. I've been watching every "how to shoot a pistol" video I can, including the three above. It's all gonna boil down to practice, practice, practice. It took some time for me to get good with my varmint rifle and this is going to take time as well. I just need to make sure and be patient. I've been looking into trigger mods and aftermarket triggers but I think I'll first just get accustomed to how the gun shoots. Once I have a feel for it I'm sure I'll do better.

A good idea is to get a cheap laser pointer. Something like te one's from the pet shop for cat's to chase around a dark room.
theck the gun and magazine are empty (and check again) then tape it to the barrel and aim at a dot on the wall and dry fire. See where you laser moves. It's all about trigger pull on a pistol. Have a look at the chart to give some guidence. And have fun. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1595808699.jpg |

My nephew was talking about the laser snap cap. I like the idea of one of those. Might have to get one!
|
The whole idea of the (cat's) laser is you can watch where you are moving when you pull the trigger. Laser snap caps only show you what a bad shot you are. Nothing to do with mastering trigger pull.

Unfortunately, an all too common story with these modern pistol designs - really bad triggers. My two sons call me a "trigger snob" and, believe me, they are right. Nothing makes a gun, be it sidearm or rifle, more difficult to shoot than a bad trigger. I know much of it has to do with the designs of the modern fire control mechanisms, and much of it has to do with the desire to manufacture without hand fitting. Doesn't mean I have to like it, though. Maybe that's why I like to stick with older designs - my only autoloaders are all 1911 derivatives. My sons tell me I need to join the modern age... meh...
Realistically, though, for the intended use these modern triggers are just fine. Don't beat yourself up trying to get match grade accuracy from the gun or from yourself. It just won't happen. A realistic understanding of what the gun is meant to do will allow you to enjoy it a good deal more. It's an arms-length or just slightly farther defensive tool. That's it, that's all. And a damn good one at that. Don't disappoint yourself by expecting more. |
