A War Damaged House of the Civil War.

Amazing video. The Carter House is now on my bucket list.

History like this needs to be preserved. https://boft.org

It is really cool that the damage has not been fixed and it still there to see.

If you ever are in Hawaii, and go to the Arizona memorial in Pearl Harbor you are close to Hickam, AFB. I suspect only active duty or retired military can get on base which is a shame. We lived on Hickam in 1969 and 1970. Dad worked at the PACAF headquarters. The front of the building is still full of bullet holes from the Japanese attack. People died in that building. They leave the damage as a war memorial, but also to remind the personnel that work in the building that the USA was indeed attacked, and we were unprepared for war.

Wow, very cool video. Thanks for posting.

It's hard to imagine a place with that kind of history. I've never lived anyplace that had that kind of history.

I have been there.

I spent two years at a plant expansion in Union City, Tn. Not much to do on weekends so I spent time seeing the sites. Carter House was choice.

Columbus Belmont park in SW Kentucky had giant links of chain that the Confederates used to block traffic down the Mississippi. I believe the chain was a mile long. Still had the trenches that were used by the Confederates. Shiloh was sobering to visit.

That wall is what prompted me to start this thread.

Here is a photo of one of the buildings. I took it in 2017 while on TDY at Hickam AFB. Eerie to see the damage, Easy to see the direction the planes were flying.

My first job at 16 was at the Hickman AFB commissary. I had no idea that this building and the damage existed.

My father's aunt and uncle were at Pearl Harbour when the Japanese attack happened. He was a civilian engineering contractor that worked for the Army. After they got back to the states (first boat back!) they paid my grandparents a visit and related their first hand experiences. They said that there were people standing out in the middle of the street gawking at what was going on that were killed or wounded by strafing enemy aircraft. Apparently they shot at anything that moved! When I was a kid, there was an older couple that had a brother at Pearl when the attack came. He was on a small arms ammunition ship that was moved to another harbor and camouflaged a couple of days before the attack. Really makes you wonder just what the government actually knew!

The Jap Zero fighters were equipped with machine guns as well as a 20mm rapid firing cannon. You can see the different size bullet strike holes.
