Shower curtain versus shower door.

I have a small shower, In a cramped room. It has a glass door. Opening one side you have to slide in sideways. My wife and I are not huge, but it’s noticeably small. I got over that squeegeeing after the shower thing. Hate it. Especially winter time. It’s much easier in a bigger enclosure for sure.

So we are going to try a curtain. I took off the door and scrubbed the shower down. It was so easy having it wide opened like that.

This bathroom is on the hit-list for a remodel. I have enough room to put in a shower stall that won’t need a dour at all. I do lose some closet space.

What’s your take on the shower curtain? Seems even in the pro/cons thing.

Swapped sliding doors for curtain in kids bathroom. At least until it is remodeled. Much easier to manage.

Curtain for us. We only have one bath/shower and cleaning grandkids in a bath with a door is a pain. That track hurts when you lean over it.

My son has this odd hatred for shower curtains.... it’s weird.

I prefer a door if the space works.

I have a curved curtain rod, gives you more space .

I mostly could never see the reason for a shower door, when a curtain fills the same purpose, doesn't have to be washed down all the time, & can be changed out easily for another color or pattern. We have the outward curved shower rods which are actually nice, but your shower sounds like it may be too small for that.

In my recent complete bathroom teardown/rebuild, I opted for a walk in shower surround 72"x36", that replaced a cast iron tub in the same space. We had a curtain on the tub, and hated it because it was always too close, and hard to open/close.

The full length curtain that we have now in our walk in shower is great, because of the open space of the flat floor, and we also mounted it on roller bearing curtain hooks, so it is really easy to open or close.

We also had both the tub, and the new shower curtains on a curved (bowed) rod that helps give more room, but still not enough for the tub.

I've never been a fan of shower doors, and are really expensive for full length.

The Mrs wanted shower doors on the walk in shower when we replaced the old tub/shower unit. Hot tip: get clear glass (not frosted) and Rain-X the glass after cleaning. It means cleaning only 2-4 weeks depending on how often you use it.

That’s the way to do it. A lot has to do with how much room you have to pitch the floor for drain and tile selection (easier to pitch smaller tiles). Looks very nice.

I lowered subfloor in shower area and used the schluter system with sloped shower pan

We have been building curbless shower for sometime. Almost all our remodels have them and people are willing to cut the slab or drop the joist jsut to eliminate tripping hazard. Here are couple of lousy cell phone pics.

The black and white floor was done for an older guy who had trouble getting in and out of the shower with his wheelchair. After we did that one, Our phones blew up from all his other older buddies who all wanted one. The second is one of our rentals.

Vash when you are ready to do this and if you need help with layout and space planning, give me a shout, bud.

I hate shower curtains. It feels so good having someone grabbing and rubbing my ass every time I am in the shower only to discovered its the damn shower curtain. If you can swing it, have no active door. 27-28" is ideal.

If you aren't gutting and redoing the whole bathroom, swap the hard doors for a curved curtain rod and curtain. The curved curtain rods work well and give you more elbow room and the feeling of more space.

In our old home, we had a small master bath. We eventually swapped the bathroom door from swinging into the bathroom to swinging out into the bedroom. That was a huge improvement on the space/feeling of the bathroom (although it won't help with your shower).

I'd have loved to have done a pocket door instead, but the work would have been too much when we were fairly sure that we'd be moving (which we did).

Mine is a hinged glass door in the middle with two small pieces of glass on either side.

Sadly, we can no longer have two volume controls (one working shower only, be it body jets, hand held or main shower but they can't be on simultaneously) in LA county. We must save water you know, gov knows best on how to save water. There's a will, there's a way. We install rough valve with a stub out and cover as much as can with tile. Mark tile, after inspection, pull them out, install trim and shower head. Done. PITA.

The single knob thing pisses me off. I want the ability to independently control cold and hot from off to full or anywhere in between.

Steve, check with your city. Many places still allow them to be installed that way just not here in lalaland. It usually requires a mixer or themp control valve, then off to volume controls that control the flow of water to each shower heads. My feeling is that as a home owner, one should be able to run the entire "car wash" simultaneously but who the heck does that? I did it for laughs once at my own house. Normally, its just single shower head that's running.
