The 2400 mile 968 journey began yesterday
Well, sorry I haven't posted an update. Cell reception has been kinda crappy.
I left the Seattle area yesterday after filling up with ethanol-free gas at about 3pm. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1595123665.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1595123740.jpg My first refill was 462 miles later in Milltown, MT. Only this time, it was corngas. A bit over 16 gallons worth. That tak only took me 337 miles to Billing before I needed to fill up again. The third tank - non-corngas went 387 miles... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1595123894.jpg I'm currentl halfway between Murdo and Chamberlain, SD. Som other pics...laptop battery running low, I'll post more later. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1595124049.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1595124190.jpg |
I am starting to like the 968 more and more. It seems like a very capable GT while being unique.
Good luck on the trip. |

Same for USB phone chargers. McDs etc and some cafes should have free WiFi available 24/7. (Set your computer security settings to "public" or "highest" first.) |
Well, props to you for the long trip. Love the long hauls across this fair country.
I see your mileage is getting up there. Consider changing out your Variocam unit at the next timing belt change... |

Awesome! I'm glad it's going well for you. ETA into Ohio?
|
I love gathering bugs that way.
Looks like you're moving right along. What are the speed limits out in that neck of the woods? Stay safe. |

I figure if I leave at 6am tomorrow, I should be there around noon. :D |

Looks great in white! Safe travels! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
You should be able to pick up McD's wifi from the parking lot. I used to do it in my work truck and laptop.

Why are you adding Seafoam? I love the stuff for cleaning plugged injectors or carb jets, or removing moisture from fuel but don’t understand it as a regular additive(?)
|
Probably to help combat the effects of the ethanol gas he's having to buy.
|
I love road trips and have been back and forth across this great land from Whidbey Island Wa to Key West and down through Mexico into Belize.
Unfortunately my health prohibits anymore fun so I have to live vicariously through everyone else’s adventures. Thanks for the updates and drive safely. Tony |
Seafoam????
|
don't think it will help with EtOH, which is not an issue if you rip it thru the motor at 85 mph
- where are the nice pics of the mountains? |
Iowa sucks amd I'm falling asleep. It's like I'm standing still.

If anyone wonders what he's seeing, the answer is corn and soybeans. Hope your trip continues to go well!
|
Hey now, Iowa has some great things about it....
Now driving through it, yeah that sucks but not as bad as NE on I80... Glad your trip is going well. |
Vaya con dios amigo.
|
55 MPH, so you can watch the corn grow. Now that’s pride.
Never seen your 968 so bug splattered. Carry on Wolfe. |

Great trip. This was my second cross country - first was in 2010 in my '73 911T. |
Need some farmer's daughters pics!!! :D

The trees pretty much disappear around Salina and don’t reappear until Denver.
Near the KS/CO stateline area there is buried stack of old cars visible from I70 acting as a retaining wall in a farmer’s field. |
So here's what I came all this way for. To help figure out how to program this machine. 15 minutes into it, the basics were figured out. An hour or so later, the non-obvious stuff was getting sorted. There were a few settings such as wind direction (clockwise or CCW) and others that weren't named well enough to make them obvious. Those were a bit trickier to sort out.
It is now put into service, after sitting unused for two years. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1595449384.jpg |

Love this vintage multi-bobbin machinehttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1595449799.jpg

How was the ride?
How the car behaved? |

Near the end, my right hip started to get pretty stiff. A/C held up very well, too. |

No cruise control I take it?
That's when the ol' broom handle comes in handy. That's cool that you got the machines working for your friend. |
What is the machine you set up for him?

He's used to older mechanical machines like the big green monster from the....60's, probably. He bought the Tanac a couple years ago, but hadn't been able to figure out it's programming. Even for me, it was a bit weird working with an LCD screen. My winders have a nice GUI. |
