Stealing Garbage?

I know it is garbage, but someone took one of the boxes from our curb, and re-arranged the remaining recycling into the trash. I live in a gated community.

My wife thinks it is someone from outside the neighborhood or kids. If it were either of those, they would have dumped the packing material in the box on the ground, not put most of it in my trash can. Some of the items were put into other boxes for the recycling.

We don't normally put our trash out the night before, but the trash service is coming extra early due to excessive heat. I put the trash out around 8-9PM. So it happened between 9PM and 6AM.

If you need a box, ask. Taking one of our boxes and re-arranging our trash in the middle of the night is very weird!

Likely someone looking for personal information. Old checks, or insurance forms, car registration info, and so on. Likely you are smart enough to shred any of that, but the bad guys don't know that up front.

I shred anything with even a little personal information, even the name of my insurance companies, or bank information. Then we put the shredded documents into our compost, and stir. It turns into soil forthwith. And even right after it is put in it is covered and mixed with compost and not even the CIA is going to put it together. We mostly compost it because the master gardener wife wants the paper in there as a balance to the grass and leaves.

I burn all of mine in the backyard fire pit

Sounds like the feds are on to you 😁

I live in a gated community and they nicely re-arranged the recycling that was in the box. They took "recycling" not actual garbage.

I wish they would nicely re arrange my recycling when they search for the bottles and cans. I have received a couple of tickets for the mess they make when searching through the garbage and mixing the garbage together.

I had garbage stolen while participating in a lawsuit.
(Quite a few very odd things happened actually.)

Good reminder to shred anything with personal information:
-A lot of personal information can be found through public records anyways. Social media fills in the gaps.

-Universal Product Codes might be used to con customer service and access your accounts. idk.

-"The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable."

That was my first thought.

Are you a "person of interest" in any investigations, James? :D

Not gated but nearby and there are a few Fred Sanford type trucks that circulated through the neighborhood on heavy traSH and recycling days. They will take what they find valuable. Some of my neighbors get red assed about it but I don't see the harm. I was taken aback at first but have observed them many times as I leave for work. I believe they are after metal mostly.

they took a cardboard box??

someone "needs" to move and is hard up - maybe connected with the atty who killed Epstein's judge?

At work, we have those types picking through the dumpsters. I don't care. But this had to be a neighbor.

They took a box full of recyclables and emptied it into my regular trash can. In California, I'd be written a ticket for something like this. My giant (bigger than my trash can) recycle bin was half empty. The boxes were shipments with the remaining packing material inside.

It is weird. It is not a garbage picker. It is a neighbor. We have LOTS of people complaining about the dog people leaving dog crap in random trash cans.

First World problems....

I want to speak to the manager

O.K. Karen....

I believe what Tony actually said was........cock-a-roaches...

GH85Carrera 07-20-2020 11:37 AM

Sounds like it is time to put a security camera pointed at the trash in place. Then you will know just who it was.

RWebb 07-20-2020 11:42 AM

maybe keep an eye on your new a/c units - who knows what the neighbor may want next

The jerkoff who took my box, he filled my regular trash with recyclable material. Regular trash pickup didn't take my trash
