I like that the new Corvettes are mid engine. I think Corvette fans have been waiting a long time
for this C8. I guess with today's advancements in transmission technology that the automatic
is the way to go.
My 911 is manual and has none of the new permissive supervision that keeps you out of trouble.
Yea ... I am old, grey and in the way. I like the styling/design of sports cars made in the 60's.
Today, I brought home to Sacramento from eastern Wyoming a 1971 C3 ragtop.
For me, that car is what I wanted more than the 2021 Corvette. It hasn't been restored and will keep me busy for awhile.
I will try to post some pics in the Random Transportation Pic thread.

Plus the C3 was a heck of a lot less money that the 1, 2 or 3LT.
When you open the engine hood and all you see is eight spark plug wires, a distributor and a coil, you can't help but smile.

Actually there is a reason most cars look the same. Safety regulations. Side impact beams in doors, crumple zones and all the airbags and computers to operate the modern car dictate bigger cars, and restrict free design. Roll over protection, and on and on.

Don't forget high-hood pedestrian safety regulations.

+1! As an aside I do look back fondly on the days when Pops Flatbutt and I set up out in the backyard on a Saturday with points, plugs, rotor, condenser and cap. We'd have the Yankee game on the radio and ham samiches on a plate. Mama FB would keep the Budweiser and Lemonade flowing.

Ha.... My dad would get out the Craftsman tools and "air-whistle" while he broke things.

Chip Foose was on the Hagerty Channel last night with a 'polite critique' of the ungainly C8 and his version had he been the designer at GM:

This would be an interesting C8 mod:

Tremec has released a new six-speed row-your-own gearbox that could make C8 Corvette manual swaps a common thing – at least, eventually.

Can't say I like his version, either.

GM gets the details wrong.

Foose gets the basic shape wrong.

Isn't there even one Italian designer that GM could poach from Ferrari?

herr_oberst 12-09-2025 05:33 AM

Chips version would need a windshield that reached up all the way to the B pillar - that's if a normal sized human could even fit in the car.

911 Rod 12-09-2025 06:36 AM

I think the weak point is the cheap interior. Start there.

Zeke 12-09-2025 06:56 AM

Sorry, Chip.

RANDY P 12-09-2025 07:25 AM

C8 interior is not good- everything from that boat launch of a console (necessary due to spine, but??) to that Soviet inspired steering wheel.

Pass.

I do love the early C3s that didn't have the rubber bumper covers. The flat rear with a spoiler and the chrome bumpers or bumperetts. I think those were '68-71 or 72?

I did set points in my first car which was 21 years old. I would have been happy with an HEI ignition, but yeah, the rest of the old setups was awesome. Tons of room to work in the engine compartment (not so much on a Corvette as the other Chevies).

Hmm, I don't like the roofline or the super pointy front end that Foose drew. The side view of the current car is better without the big spoiler on the rear, but it's functional, and in a car like that, functional air management is a good thing even if it's very boy racer.

I saw that on FB the other day. Very cool. I suspect there won't be a ton sold, and wonder how many clutches will die premature deaths. But it would definitely be an upgrade in my mind.

Gawd, it's 2025 and they still haven't fixed it yet?

Yeah, that's good!

DavidI 12-09-2025 09:17 AM

I love the look and am very impressed with the performance. The C8 is a beast!

JackDidley 12-09-2025 10:58 AM

Haters gotta hate. I sold my Cayman S and bought a C6. Interior has different options juast as the Porsche. C6 seat ajustments are identicle to the Cayman. I think the haters just feel good about putting down non German cars. My perfect car would be a Cayman with an LS engine.

can’t stand anything Foose does. he has awful taste in everything.

i saw the newest version over the weekend while waiting at the dealer. it looked good in all black. the new interior is nice but i had no issue with the prior interior. still hate the design of the back end of these things.

astrochex 12-09-2025 12:25 PM

I still thing the C8 is fugly and generic. I can't look at rear from any angle and not want to poke out my eyes. I don't doubt it is a performance monster, but that alone is not enough for me.

RANDY P 12-09-2025 12:42 PM

If they only fixed the back of that thing- too many creases, corners etc. it will definitely date poorly.

It looks like a Corvette styled by the guy that did the Civic R

I really like the C7 Z06. My uncle had one. That's a good looking car in real life, and could decimate corners faster than my SC could putter down the straights.

The C8 looks pretty good for optimus prime and the autobots. I think the lego version looks better than the real thing.

I'm not a hater though. I was watching some renegade conversion videos this am on 928's and 944's, and it wasn't even because of this thread. I always wanted a V8 in my 944.
