Fast Camper (Warning: contains fugly car pics)
 

There are lots of fast GT cars, and there are campers, but while you can set up a tent from your 911 or other GT or sports car, why can't you just pull up and raise the rear hatchback then drop a tent to surround the sides & rear?

You can buy car tents in Britain. The sides and back reach right down to the ground though.

I think I'd take the Aztec.

Cult classic in 20 years.

The back part of the car (rear seats down) needs to be long enough for 1 or 2 adults to fit in.

I think a Saab 9000 might do.

I like camping and it allows you to avoid bedbugs, and viruses in hotel rooms.

I'm debating between one that mounts on the back of my wagon.

Or a larger one that can stand alone and or open into the back of the wagon.

The small one for quick setup and breakdown. Smaller cleaner to put back into the car.

The larger one offers more space and can be left at campsight with camping stuff inside for day trips. And could house a cot for a friend to sleep on.

^(just me- but) I'd go large.

I've slept in the back of my wagon, and even in the back of my 944. If you inflate an air mattress in a wagon, it'll eat up a lot of the headroom, making it hard sometimes to sit up. When you hear something rummaging through the campsite at 3:00 am, you are going to want to be able to sit up.

The large tent lets you stand up which really helps if you need to stretch, or change clothes. Also good if it's raining and you are stuck "inside".

What I've noticed in my wagon, and in the 944, and in some pickups, is that it is hard to ventilate, without opening windows, which lets water/bugs in, and can catch too much warmth/condensation on the inside if the windows are closed.

Since this is essentially car camping- weight doesn't matter.

A while back I got this tent at a store. It was mismarked for about $60, so I bought it. It doesn't connect to a car per-se, but is so heavy, it will never get far from a car. Three rooms. Room to stand in main area. Friggin' huge. I use every square inch. Doesn't protect from snoring though.

The large one off the back of the car would let you sleep in the car if it's raining, but be able to stand off the back and hang out/ dress. Gives a lot more privacy.

Nope.... 9000 (SAAB Lancia Fiat Alfa) rear seat does not fold down... The 900 is what you're looking for.

I had a 2002 Saab 9-3. The rear seats fold down flat, but they are about two inches higher than the floor of the trunk, and that lip lands right in your lower back. I slept one night in the back of the 9-3, but never again.

When I first started racing, well when I first started I towed the rabbit with another rabbit and slept in a tent. I graduated to a '82 S10 with a topper, the topper had screened windows and I slept in the back of the truck. Then I put a cot in the back of the truck, that worked pretty good.

That was 30 years ago. Now I don't think my back could take it.

I've never had to sleep in it, but an OG 900 is very easy to sleep in. The cargo area in my '85 SPG with the seats folded down is perfectly flat and 42" x 72" between the wheel wells, large enough to fit a full-size mattress.

Yep.... I also carried a washer and dryer in my SPG (separately).

And the 9-3 did not work well.
