What did you bring home from the war, daddy?

Auctions and estate sales have been a passion of mine for several years. It's the thrill of the hunt. Some of my WWII finds of late:

500# bomb fuse, (sealed)
20mm cannon round (stamped 1941)
2 - 37mm rounds; M74 and M51A2 (stamped 1942 - 43)
A fragmentation grenade case
A box of 30 cal rounds and a M1 magazine ( no pic.)

I bought four Navy footlockers: all metal, hinged - they collapse, to save storage space when not being used. None of my Navy friends had ever seen one, but we are all Vietnam or later era, so ....anyone seen these before?

A sliding "pin" in each corner allows assembly/disassembly in 20 seconds. Ingenious.

This is a WWII Field Phonograph - crank to play. For traveling USO shows or events?

I sold this record player to a man that is going to open a WWII museum ...in China. And so it goes.....

My grandfather brought these back from WWI. No idea what they are (besides ammo).

Looks like live ammo. You have to be careful with that stuff. Particularly the larger stuff. If you have a large shell that is obviously not inert, you should be careful with it, and if in doubt contact you local Emergency Ordnance Disposal team to evaluate it for you.

Mo,

The collapsible chests are gold! We called them, "cruise boxes" when I deployed...when I was the maintenance officer on two dets, I actually had to sign for them when I took over...they became my absolute responsibility to track until the next guy.

If you ever see any more, and are not in the market, let me know.

Might really check on the larger stuff that goes boom. It could be illegal to have it in your possession. One thing if it's inert, but if it is viable...hmmm.... Seriously you probably should check on that.

The footlocker is brilliant.

Even 20mm ammo is legal in most US states.

I have lugged many of those "cruise boxes" up and down the ladderwells of aircraft carriers. I hated those things! But it would be nice to have a couple now that I'm retiring. The one you have is marked "NAS Oceana" I bet my fingerprints are on it somewhere! haha

I have that same bomb fuse somewhere. My folks sold the bomb at a garage sale while I was an exchange student and not home to protest it.

Good try Mike! You can tell you are not a vet!

The correct phrase is "can I go home with you to the land of the Big PX?"

Collapsable box was known as a "Cruise Box" as a couple of other swabbies here have mentioned. It was how we moved on to and off off the aircraft carriers. It was filled with unit equipment. You carried your own duffle bag

I brought home the tail section of I think a 122mm ChiCom rocket, the tail section of a ChiCom mortar, some ChuHoi leaflets dropped from planes, some 8x10 Ariel photos and some pre war Vietnamese bills, my books from Vietnamese Language School, and a lot of pictures. I tried to put a AK47 in a speaker I bought at the PX but when I broke it down it was still an inch too long. If I could have found a hack saw and cut the flash supressor off I might have got it home.
When I moved to Costa Rica I stored the stuff in boxes at my brothers house. When I moved back they were nowhere to be found.
