Fumoto oil drain valve.

Every oil change forum; someone will chime in and say, “get a fumoto valve and make oil changes so easy”

The valve seems like a solution to a non-existence problem. (To me).

Anyone use one and feel it’s a god-send to DIY oil changes? Total game changer?

Companies have been selling 'solutions' to problems that you never knew existed for a loooooong time. There is a reason that you need to remove the plug with a tool

A socket and rachet is a big problem?

Wow. What else is a challenge for these people.

I have one on my 3.5 Ecoboost. The oil tends to flow down onto the frame and the Fumoto valve lets me attach a section of tubing to run it right into the catch pan.

Before I had to use a Form-A-Funnel and lots of rags.

Anyone that has ever changed the oil on a 911 and gets to the the oil tank drain know a 3/4 inch stream of hot oil come gushing out at an incredible rate.

My large oil drain pan has a central drain hole and a small vent hole. It can't keep up with the massive flow of the tank. So I have to shove my 5 quart pan into the flow for a minute to let the main pan catch up.

I put in a drain valve that was for a diesel truck. Perfect fit. Now I can just shut off the flow, let the pan catch up, and then let it finish, or just drain it at a reduced rate in the first place. I can shove a hose on it and drain it right into a big container and not mess up my drain pan.

This is a fuzzy photo because it was in the background of a photo I was taking of the back of the engine with no muffler so I could see how to put it back together.

Many years ago, I'm pretty sure somewhere here on PP, I remember reading a post that someone had a buddy that installed one that had been accidentally released and drained the engine when the owner didn't know. I think it was a regular wetsump American car or something where the sump hung way down and was pretty exposed under the car.

I've done a lot of oil changes on various vehicles over the years. In some cases, there's just no way around having oil run down your tool and/or hand as you pull the drain plug. If you could just flip a valve, you wouldn't have that issue.

I'll stick to a drain plug, but could see the desire for a valve.

The drain plug on my F150 is on the side of the pan not the bottom. Also the Fumoto valve has a lock that clips onto it to prevent accidental release of the oil.

It may not be the end all, be all for most makes but it works great on the Ford.

Doesn't make sense to me either.

I installed one on my Duramax pickup years ago and love it . My reason for installing was to make oil sampling much easier . I always add a zip tie to make sure it stays in the closed position never have had an issue .

To do an oil change I snip the zip tie , open the valve and let it drain . When it is done draining I close the valve , add the zip tie and done . Never any oil running down my arm or burnt fingers . Don't have to fish the drain plug out of hot oil pond . Works for me .

probably very little benefit to a quick flush of fast draining oil right? i mean it's not like a toilet flush after visiting a Mexican bran muffin factory, where a little bit of velocity can really save the day.

Also- the oil tank on my 911 has had po's (not me of course- NEVER ) overtighten the nut, and the internal threads are getting "iffy" Every time I tighten it back up, I worry it will strip whatever is left up there.

I mean, I'm sure the reason they overtighten it is because they are too cheap to replace the washer and want to make sure it doesn't leak. Not me though. No way. New washers every time and a high dollar torque wrench to exactly the setting. I even tattooed the setting into my left arse cheek.

Anyone got a part number on this one. Pelican have one? I want one today.

Every time I do a change I worry about cross threading the drain due to my numb hands. A valve would be an answer to that.

I looked on Pelican and couldn't find them. I think I bought mine from a diff Porsche parts mag...it's been about 20 years ago.
Also, Amazon carries them.

My SC wouldn’t need it. Too easy as is. However, my 930 has the case drain on the side and not a lot of room from aftermarket heater boxes. So, I always end up having to rig some type of cover onto the heater box to prevent a nice coating of oil spewing out. I’ve thought about this valve for this application. Any other suggestions for 911 cases with side drains (not sump)? I read somewhere that this valve is heavily used in certain large municipal fleets without issue.

The one I have is from XDP (Xtreme Diesel Performance) www.XDP.com

Part number FMFG7BN the Fumoto Engine Oil Drain Valve

It was 33.79 tag title and tax delivered to my door. It has a shoulder so an accidental opening is unlikely. I went with "belts suspenders and staples" approach and added a metal wire wrap to prevent it from opening. Just clip with dikes, and open the valve, with a hose on it, and right into my 5 gallon container. Easy Peazy and clean.

I have one on my cummins. Love it as you can change the oil when hot and not burn your hand.
I bought the extra clip that secures the little lever. 3 oil changes a year and 20 mins each. Easy peasy.
