A big down side to living longer

https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/22/media/larry-king-children-died-trnd/index.html

Love him or hate him, I would rather die a slow agonizing death than have to go through burying my child, let alone 2 in close succession...I don't care if you're 30 or 90, no parent should have to do it.

Having a child die before you just goes against the right order of things...it's more than sad to those who have experienced it.

Yes, it is a risk of having lived longer...

My father in law will bury a third son by the end of the year.

I can’t even imagine. I only have one child and I think I would die from heartbreak if something happened to him

Awful. I came very close to losing my son when he was three. That was horrific enough sitting in the hospital alone for days not knowing what was really happening and expecting to be the only one that’d walk out. Thankfully a very good doctor figured things out and was able to get a surgery scheduled for him in time and he pulled through fine. There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not grateful (1) that I had insurance coverage and (2) for that doctor’s training and skills.

To the parents that haven’t been so fortunate in similar situations... my heart absolutely breaks for them.

The final ultrasound of my first grandchild days before he was born demonstrated what was thought to be a cardiac defect.

Off to Ann Arbor we all went. That was the longest drive of our lives.

He turned out fine except that he’s now a Wolverine and he can’t do anything about it.

Breaks my heart to think about it Marv. Trust and believe you do not want to hear the story.

It used to be a normal occurrence, diseases, accidents on the farm, etc. Almost every family lost a child or two. One of the reasons for large families. 100 + years ago.

It is so unusual, we’ve thought of many substitutes just to feel normal again. IED’s are particularly effective. Coronavirus leaks, guns; they all work.

But not here, of course.

Over there. Keep it over there!

One thing I’ve learned is not to put all their eggs in one basket. Love ‘em all. That way if I lose one, I know he knew he was loved when he left.

When my son lost an eye, he nearly died.

I am not sure how I would have handled that, his death. I do very well in difficult circumstances involving me and others around me not my son or daughter.

I simply do not know. LK, strength is a noun and a verb, you'll need them both.

Sorry but losing an adult child can't come close to losing a young one.
"His son Andy King, 65, unexpectedly passed away of a heart attack in late July, while his daughter Chaia King, 52, died earlier this week "only a short time after having been diagnosed with lung cancer,"

40 years ago, it was still very common in the general ag. public and 10 years ago, the Amish were still going. Today, there's not enough money for single family farming operations as equipment and land prices continue to climb. Land prices is big problem for Amish communities and their ways of living but I'm not sure they have adjusted their ways too much.

The Amish and Mennonites here are amazing business people. Amazing.

They collectively know how to scale farms to meet demands. I also helped them put together the local produce auction, a huge weekly success. They are a true, functioning collective that invests in their community.

I am very good friends with one of the leading Mennonites in my part of Maryland. He owns the local feed and tack shop and has, count'em, over 50 grandchildren. He can afford it, btw...he also owns a nursery that is packed with cars from DC.

We just get along, laugh and giggle every time I pay him by check

worse losing a child as a younger parent - more years left to suffer.

You do not want Amish as next-door neighbors.

They always want to borrow your phone.

You don't have to be old for this to happen. A high school classmate/friend of mine just lost his 17 year-old daughter this past weekend.
