Old School 4WD/SUV's

My current obsession is 70's and 80's 4WD's, especially original looking 60 series Landcruiser's.

I don't mind early Bronco's, International Scout's or Jeep Wagoneer's either..

Share pics of your car or favourite models..

I'm currently restoring a 1971 FJ40. Have acquired a 1975 2F FJ40 engine for it. Love the old stuff.

Those older Landcrushers are pretty great. I also like them.

Picked up a '68 Jeepster commando a month or so ago.
I think it is actually considered a station wagon.
V6 automatic 4wd convertible station wagon.

Needs some work but is drivable.

I am a big fan of the older SUVs In HS I had a 79 Wagoneer Brougham.

Within the past 10 years I had:
79 Wagoneer

Then my sister totaled her 95 Disco so I bought it from the ins co and resurrected it
Here is the "after" pic

Then moved onto this 91 Classic

Sold it and currently am running this 90 FJ62

Since starting this thread nearly 2 months ago, my search for a 60 series stepped up.
I found the perfect car, owned by an old couple for 25 years, always garaged (500km from the coast), never been off road etc etc.
I drove it home over 700km and quickly gave it a detail. There's not a pin hole of rust and it's been maintained well. Best of all it's not modified.
In Australia, these have a hard life and it's almost impossible to find one without a lift kit, big wheels, big front bar and rust.
I love it!!

Had one of these 20 years ago. It sucked gas, stopped like the USS Nimitz, and I almost rolled it. I miss it to this day.

Nice, nice, nice. Traveled to Pasadena 20 years ago for an audit. One of the guys on the the Brown and Root staff had one of these. Same color.

Tiny. Cool as hell. Bigger than that Suzuki jobbie. Just right. Simple and elegant.

Here's my pal's Defender.

Not really retro, but it ought to be. It is really basic. Quite square in a good way.

We had one of these growing up, exactly like this one in the pic. Dad always said the 4-door Cherokees were rare, only available by special order (Dealers only stocked Wagoneers in 4 door). Quadratrac full time 4WD, we took this thing all over the mountains of CO back when WAY less stuff was paved like it is now. It was an animal offroad.

After doing some research on the original Scouts, Series 2 and 3 Land Rovers and similar vehicles, the Bronco seems like the better choice, 0-60 times being the final deciding factor.

random pics that YOU have taken.......

He owns three of them, this running one with new welded in rockers, floor pan and bed.

A parts car, and a rust free "body only" from Arizona which he might do a swap over to.

The runner in the picture has the small slat four cylinder.

Claimed it could do 65 mph, but it doesn't like it, and he really doesn't like it at that speed.

It does not see snow unless just in the neighborhood before they start salting the roads.

I went through a Jeep phase owning various years of CJ5's + CJ7's had a lot of fun with them. I always wanted to buy a flat fender Willy's and install either a 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder diesel. Stock gearing was something like 5.37-1 can you imagine a diesel with that ring gear AND a 2 speed transfer case ??? Talk about a torque monster off road.
