I thought you said you were selling the 959 since it had gotten too valuable to drive. What changed your mind ?

Could be wrong but the MM interceptor was pretty non exceptional in performance other than a movie prop. That said if I had Waynes disposable $ I would build one to the modern standards of performance. Would just tick a box off so well I am really digging the custom 4 WD Mustang with huge HP they use for the street videos...Ken Block

Cool new toy for sure. Hopefully it is a common drivetrain and not based on some rare custom engine and mismatched transmission.
Unfortunately, not a Ferrari V12 - some type of tuned Austin engine. I will find out soon enough!

I'm the worst car seller. I don't really want to sell them, but I'm running out of space, and we have another one that we're restoring. Pre-Covid, I thought I should pare things back, but a bunch of them were at the World of Speed Museum up in Oregon, so they weren't taking up space. Now, that museum is closed permanently so we have them all back here crammed into one space.

I should probably sell some off, but my heart really isn't into it...

Cool car.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. The 914 is still in my garage right now (we're on vacation in CO in the RV right now). I think the problem is mechanical - runs *great* at above 1500 rpm, but idles like **** when warm. Like my 1972 911 with a miss on cylinder #3, I think I'm going to have to just live with that one for now. I'll drive it hard until I blow it up and then rebuilt it. The car was stolen and driven by the thief around town at 110 mph or so (according to the police who saw the car, but didn't give chase), so who the heck knows what happened to it!

Blow the Wiki pic up and check out how long it is. I suspect the one on Wiki is the other survivor out of three but not sure.

There are three total. The one I bought is the most original. The AB/4 car was the one used in Kubrick's film, A Clockwork Orange. That car has been restored, although not to completely original form (it was originally silver with a red interior). This one has better looking wheels (in my opinion), and has been relatively unmolested. It hasn't been run in a decade, so we've got some work to do. It's at the Petersen museum on display right now (well sort of, as the museum is currently closed), but when we get it back we'll do what needs to be done to get it running again so that we can bring it out to the Pelican Cars N Coffee! Sitting in the car is crazy - it's about as difficult to get into as a 962 and when you sit in it you're lying back like in a reclining beach chair on your patio. Totally weird and totally awesome. I went to go inspect it at the Petersen in July, and I was blown away at how cool it was. Probably motivated me to bid more than I thought I wanted to!

As with everyone worldwide, 2020 has been a weird year. Since selling the company, we've done 18,000+ miles in the RV (a small 24' Winnebago from 2006) with the family. It's certainly been interesting. Still looking for my next "project", but I'm looking for something to make a difference instead of generating a buttload of cash. I would fit in poorly in the "established" social circles of Hollywood - I still have to empty the "black" tank on the RV every other day by myself with my disposable gloves on! I guess you could call me "new money" - more Beverly Hill Billys, rather than Paris Hilton!

Still love learning new stuff, and eager to dive into this new car. It's not like there are any factory manuals or info out there on these. Even worse than all the work I did on the 959!

Nothing really. It's still for sale, kindof. In today's environment, what would one do with the cash? Put it in the stock market (no thank you). You can't do a 1031 exchange any more. So, the 959 sits next to the Speedster and the 962 Havoline car, gathering dust, and (perhaps) gaining in value. I'd sell the car - I really enjoy the more oddball stuff like the fire truck, the Ferret tank, the BMW 700, etc., as I can actually drive them and leave them out on the street in front of my house without losing sleep.

Actually, I must (shamefully) admit that the best car I have bought over the past three years is probably the Ferrari 360 F1. I paid $65K for the thing with about 25K miles on it. It's had a few problems (ignition coils and a transmission cooler that failed and dumped engine coolant into the transmission), but overall, that is a great performing car that looks fantastic (it's dark blue), has working A/C (most of the time), and my wife doesn't complain about that "air cooled smell". Seriously it gets the nod most of the time when I'm looking at "what should I drive home today", and it wasn't so expensive that I worry about leaving it outside at night (the pain in the ass 914 occupies the garage space these days).

I am still searching for the perfect all-around car. Haven't found it yet. The Ferrari 360 is very close, I must admit. The 1972 911 RS clone is very, very good too, although much less refined. Those two are at the top of the list, hands dow, although the 911 has some carbs that are slightly clogged right now, so I need to do some work on those...

That thing is indeed awesome (one of thirteen or so made), although it had "death wobble" the other day - I think we fixed it. For those who don't know what "death wobble" is - Google it. You learn something new with each unique car!!!
