Post office disposed of my package ?

Back in June I purchased on eBay an Android based touch screen head unit to be installed in my truck . After the purchase the seller tells me the back up camera included in the deal is out of stock . He gave me the option of a refund for the camera or to wait to be shipped . I chose to wait .

In early July I was provided a tracking number and followed it to arrival in CA. then nothing . I sent the seller an email and he stated give it a week or so to clear customs . I have been checking the tracking number online and was encouraged it was in my town and out for delivery , that was on 8/6.

Nothing has shown up so I send the seller another email and he replies with a different tracking number . And that tracking number says the package could not be delivered or returned to vendor so the USPS has disposed of the package !!! WTF ????

So I am heading to the post office this morning to see what the heck is going on . If they really have disposed of the package what recourse do I have ?

Seems that deal was already off track from the start. So I take it that the seller is out of the US?

Possibly local porch pirates, or a dishonest seller, although the USPS has proven time, and time again how inept they are....I can't wait to see how this election will be handled by the post office.

Pretty sure the seller is in China .

I've bought / sold things out of the US, never had an issue with customs including 2 cars sent to Germany. What doesn't sound right is the 2nd tracking number that was generated. I've never seen that as their system is designed to track one number sequence from receipt to delivery

I am in a remote rural area so I doubt porch pirates . My wife and I are both retired and generally home .

I can't see why the tracking number should change. Seems a bright red flag.

Open a case with ebay for item not received and they will refund your money. This has been happening over and over again lately.

AFAIK the USPS has warehouses hull of unclaimed items. IDT that's what's happened here. What's surprising is that the seller provided another tracking no. They may be stalling eBay while they continue collecting on their scam. While eBay will reimburse you they will lose money on this because the seller is pulling the funds out of the system as fast as they can. It usually takes a couple weeks to cash out.

How did you pay? This seems like a new twist to an old ruse, this time sell 2 items, ship one, keep all the money. Just enough time to keep the money.

An auction house here has skids of unclaimed packages being auctioned off.
Mostly Amazon stuff.

Just finished chatting with post office . Package came to our post office 8/17 but only had my name and city on it ☹️ . So it gets kicked back to some black hole in the postal service never to be seen again . I will contact seller and eBay . I always pay via credit card .

asphaltgambler 08-19-2020 07:15 AM

Now THAT is very odd. Who doesn't include the complete address? Never seen that. I'm betting the box is empty ( unfortunately). Too many things don't line up. If I can send 2 cars to Germany on 2 separate occasions, that douche can get a small package to you.

Exactly. Seller likely never actually shipped anything and is going to feed you bogus tracking numbers until you are outside the claim window. File that item not received claim now and document everything for them.

This entire transaction has been interesting . But what I find the hardest to explain is the post office agrees the package was in their hands two days ago but can't tell me where it is now ☹️ . They just say it is gone ......... highly suspicious in my opinion .

Someone at the post office took the time to type into their system that the package can't be delivered because of lack of address but now two days later it is magically gone .

rfuerst911sc 08-19-2020 08:11 AM

I have notified the seller but how do I file a claim with eBay ?

Had this issue with FedEx recently.

One package going to my daughter, they broke it en route so returned to shipper, never told me and I had to dig for the info after she did not receive it.

Amazon sent out a replacement. That one was marked as "customer changed address" and literally two minutes later the tracking said "address does not exist, undeliverable" so they sent that one back as well.

Same two week period, shipped out a custom high end rig to my CA office.

Same ****, tracking said address didn't exist. When I called to get it redlivered they said "we lost it".

Ate $500 in the difference of replacement value and their max payout.

I emailed the seller via ebay and that opened " a case " against the seller he has three days to respond . Fortunately it's only a 10.00 camera . We'll see what happens .

With the pandemic, things are slow to come due to lack of international flights. Even USPS is slow at times.

I ordered some respirators and they came from China. It took 2 months from the time of my order to when I received it.

My niece was waiting for something from her mom in Japan, and it got here 4 months later. She ordered some Enfamil baby formula, prior to giving birth and that got here a couple days ago. (She gave birth over 3 months ago)

And the kicker. My CPA sent out 1099s in January, and it was returned as undeliverable at the end of July. Not sure where those 1099s were sitting for 6 months.

If they ever disposed of my 'package'...I'm coming out with a spoon. :D
