Very CLEAN 1978 Honda Accord Hatchback on B.A.T.

Located in Milwaukee at $4.4K w/2 days left in the no reserve auction. Wonder what she'll end up at?

I had an '83 same style except gunmetal grey and a manual gearbox.

This one is an automatic - not my cup of tea - but in every other regard is in very nice condition, a beautiful color (better than mine was), and would make a great car for someone's son or daughter.

Reliability being the big value here.

Also....this baby is CLEAN!!!

But I also like the styling better than any 'modern' day cars.

I think that's a pretty good guess.

The way cars are priced now - that wouldn't be a bad price either, IMHO. For this particular car any way.

You don't see survivors this clean!

A 1983 Accord was a different car, they are both amazingly good. A buddy of mine in HS bought this early one, (maybe a ‘78), brand new. Just an unbelievably great car compared to just about anything else sold in those days.

My stepdad had an ‘84, bought new and daily drove for about 12 years, he might have put some brake pads on it and maybe a battery. Sold it to an acquaintance of mine for $800 in the ‘90s, (it was pretty rusted and had high miles), that guy never transferred it and ran up a bunch of parking tickets in my stepdad’s name. I owe him a broken jaw, if we ever cross paths again.

A good friend of mine had one of these in high school (early 90s) Such a great car. easy to work on, drove great and surprisingly fun with the manual.

My parents bought a new 1980 Honda Accord: $7,000 out -the -door back then. In comparison, my 1983 911SC Targa was ~ $35K.

Amazing. A true time capsule. These disposable cars are truly a treasure since there are so few survivors.

Amazing that it is worth so much.

I had one (to replace a Saab 99E) and it was nice but I didn't think it was anything special. Maybe I was just spoiled by memories of my 2002...

I had a 77. You hit it on the head, nothing like it at the time. Reasonably fun to drive, comfortable. Great mileage. Only issue was head gaskets reliability.

We had an '80 Accord Hatchback. Stripper model since we were newly married and relatively poor at the time. Put 99k miles on it and sold it after, oh gee, 7-8 years.

The '83 Accord 4-dr in metallic grey made me feel like I was putting on a three piece suit when we got it. I remember we had to wait for that car to come in to the dealer. I don't think we had to pay over sticker for it though. When we picked it up, I remember we got in the car and my wife says aren't you going to start the engine? It was already running. That was a really great car.
It did develop a problem with one plug at @75k miles. Turns out a torn spark plug boot allowed that plug wire to short to the dip stick if it was pushed close to it. This caused that plug to foul and the cylinder to run hot, frying the pre-combustion chamber valve seal. Took it to Jackson Racing which was close by us at the time to have it fixed. When I picked it up, the guy at the counter hollers back to the mechanic in the shop "Hey, that guy with the Accord is here!"
Mechanic comes out and asks me 'Who does the maintenance on your car?'
Me. No one else has ever been under the hood.
'You should be proud, I've never seen such a well maintained Honda as yours'.
Made my day.

Just for the heck of it I just looked on eBay and found this '81.......which is also in really great condition. Mileage higher at 108K and colour not as nice as the blue one but it does have a stick!

1 bid at $5K
BIN: $11K
Location: Maryville, Tennessee
1 day, 14 hours left in auction

Just looked at the other auctions from the above seller and he's got some really nice classics......like this one for example!

You should check them out - worth the look.

Honda must have copied the 1st generation Scirocco?
