youtube videos. the personalities.

as a new kayak fisherman, YouTube is invaluable as a resource for learning new krap. all the info is there. knots, how to cast, how not to die a drowning death, etc..

the one info that ISNT there? the elusive HONEY-HOLE.

guys go to great lengths to keep their places secret. but you know what the weak link is? their inability to not film and tell their stories. they cant help themselves!!

you watch and pay attention, they will slip. last night, i learned a GREAT SPOT. quick google earth and BAM! i know where he was.

this goes for all videos. people filming kids, their girlfriends, etc. there is simply too much info out there. their lives are leaky sieves. (maybe not the hot-chick filming herself doing makeup. that seems innocuous.)

in a way, posting on forums is the same thing. i'm guilty for sure. i post up vacations, "hey, my house is empty for 3 weeks". stuff like that. blah blah blah.

do you think we talk too much? too much info? my dad told me when i was a tiny kid, "never volunteer information".

My wife gets all over social media and tells the world that we are on a different continent. Well, she used to do this when travel was a thing. But since I am happily married, I keep my mouth shut.

Largely they are trying to talk their way into being the next big thing...

My son has been watching a 25yo kid that produces Minecraft videos and has made to date something like $25million.

My parents had a place at the lake and they LOVED to go bass fishing. They had a know-it-all neighbor that was always giving bad advice to dad about fishing. Most mornings right after dawn the neighbor went west, my parents went east on a 44,000 acre lake. One day my parents came back with the limit, and the neighbor came back with one fish. The next day the neighbor went east so my parents went west. About an hour into the day clouds were forming so they were shutting down when a stranger came close and asked if they were in a tournament. Of course they said no, and stranger said I have a big stringer of fish, but I have to get back to town right away and I can't take the time to clean them, do you want them. So dad accepted the fish, and went to their dock and started cleaning a lot of fish. The neighbor came back empty handed and dad offered him some fish to eat that night but he refused.

Dad said the neighbor was really inspecting all the fish they had in a short time from "his" end of the lake and dad never said a word except "better luck tomorrow" as the neighbor walked off.

Guy in my shop complex came by my shop later one afternoon and started talking over beers about a sex professional floozie that he sent a text to. A legitimate porn actress. She miraculously responded. He said he has only sent her $50. So he gives me her name, I Google her and find her address. Google Earth her place and compared the back yard on Google earth to several of her photos that showed her back yard (shrubs/fence) through her windows. Bingo. Confirmed.

I see lots of folks post vacation stuff on Facebook. Several times I've wanted to reply with "Cool, we'll be over to party and take your stuff," but have resisted. It's possible that they have their posts set to private, but I doubt it, and probably not private enough.

Great story!

Why would posting vacation photos on FB be an issue? Who the hell makes their profile viewable to anyone other than friends? Mrs. Lee and I don't always vacation together. And when we do, we often have a house sitter, and this place is well defended.

Lots of folks don't know or think about security and sharing on the various social media spots. Lots of folks post notes about when and where they are going on/for vacation or while they are there. If they don't make their posts private, then things can get ugly. I think that you're more the exception than the rule.
