Trying to remember a Book Title
Brain trust time.
Years ago I read a book that either had a forward by Colin Chapman, or a chapter where they were quoting Colin Chapman, and I am trying to remember the title of the book. Hoping someone here can help. (I know, I know. The song goes sort of like da da te da boom, do you know the title?) The jist of the text was : The chassis is just a bracket that everything else bolts to and should be the last part of the car that you design He justifies by saying stuff like The rules will define the basic wheelbase The tires are defined by the rules, so those have pretty much a fixed size. The Motor and Transmission are pretty much a fixed size, so you know about where they have to go. The driver is pretty much a fixed size, you don’t have much area to move then around within the car. The chassis is just a bracket that connect all these pieces and can not directly go through any of them. Longshot, but does anyone recall the book title?

Sounds like racing and sports car chassis design by Michael Costin, the style that you posted is VERY similar

I remember the stuff slightly different, so...
Either my memory is at fault (99% chance) or The stuff I remember was heavily influenced by the book, or the book was heavily influenced by the stuff I remember (1% chance) You definitely get bonus points for providing the PDF! Background info that probably only Tom will sort of care about. What got me thinking about the quote was I was lying on my garage slab, under the Noble, replacing the front turbo and having to reach up/around all the chassis tubing. My dumb joke. In 2000 Audi changed the transmission/rear suspension of their Le Mans racer in under 5 minuets. If Lee Noble had designed the car, Team Rohrl would still be in the garage finishing the job.
