Need help with using my multimeter

I’m trying to test the resistance of my auxiliary air regulator AAR, and I can’t make sense of the readings. If I use the meter like the directions say, on the 200 (omega) I get nothing. Just a 1. Same on any of the other settings, just a 1... except on the 2000k setting, where I get somewhere around 496, 520 to and it climbs up as I watch it.
What is the resistance of this thing? I think the spec is around 35... is that 35/350/3500/350000 depending on what setting I’m on? Damn my head hurts.

I believe you are pretty much reading open circuit, with a TINY amount of interference.

open circuit

500k is basically the plastic or insulation or the charred remains of whatever let the smoke out

I agree with the other posters. Some multimeters display a 1 for "out of range."

Well you guys were all correct. I drilled out the rivets to see what could be seen, and lo- one of the wires had broken free of the post.
A quick soldering iron job and I now have 21.x in resistance (using the manuals recommended 200 range.
Thanks guys!
