Before I started shooting and putting them in my freezer, they would walk right up. No pressure, no eminent threat.

Anytime a deer with antlers approaches a female, I'd be concerned that it's not purely curiosity.

Its a sign that we have taken much of their natural habitat. Happens a lot at my mothers home in Southern California. They are always looking for water.

We never had deer that close as a kid. Ever

On the other hand.... I was amazed having deer walk right up to me hiking in the Columbia River Gorge..

You would have a hard time trying to drive over a half-mile around here without seeing a dead deer along the road.
Of course part of the reason is...the road commission no longer picks them up. They just leave them to rot away and other animals take them.

I bet our deer population is more than the squirrels.

It's also a sign that we have taken much of their natural popn controls - intro a wolf pack and some cougars to your hood and the deer will be a lot less evident.

Deer have no golf etiquette. No matter how slow that foursome was, it is not permissible to bother the slow group while they are putting. Observing a better golfer's form to learn is ok, but seriously, give the putter some breathing room! The deer was probably trying to chip in from the rough. They are notoriously bad putters.

I don't care if they lean to play golf, I just wish they would learn to look both ways before crossing the road. And to learn cars are WAY faster than they are, and it is really hard to jump over a car and not get hurt or killed.

Just need to put up signs at the appropriate place.

Google "Donna deer crossing" for a laugh.

Lots of bike trails here that are mostly thru the forests.
Hardly ever see more bikers than deer. Sometimes they will not move until you are 6 feet from them.

You just know that the older buck said to the younger one, "let's walk down the hill and boink them all!"

I have doe and yearlings walk right up to me during gun deer season. Not that close though, never closer than 5'.

One of my few posts on nextdoor.com was a takeoff on that deer crossing clip. Someone started a thread claiming a deer attacked him. Well, upon further reflection, the deer didn't literally attack him, but it got close enough to him to make it seem like an attack and Mr. Fudd was scared for himself and all the good people in our neighborhood. He wanted the neighborhood to demand the city kill all the deer and clear the area of wildlife to make it safe for humans.

A surprising number of people thought this was a good idea, but most people suggested he evolve into a human being and stop worrying about deer attacking him. I thought the conversation was degenerating, so I posted a helpful reply designed to get the thread back on track. I responded sympathetically so he would listen to me and thoughtfully offered a few practical suggestions he could use for self protection if the city declined the opportunity to exterminate all local wildlife to prevent the attack of killer Bambis. My suggestions included proper self defense techniques, useful weapons, and better signage directing deer away from hiking paths. I specifically recommended clear verbiage on the signs advising deer that attacks on humans were not allowed.

Unfortunately our distressed Elmer Fudd (and a few others) took my suggestions seriously and tried to engage me in conversation about my experiences with attacking deer and where best to post signs.

My wife doesn't let me post on Nexdoor.com any more.
