Soil your pants? Cougar tracks man for 6 minutes

Hiker walks up on mom and two cubs. Gets really interesting at the 2:45 mark.

In my younger days I had a cougar stalking me and my buddy all night once. We barely got out of the bar alive!

"I'm big and scary"

"you're a good little kitty cat"

"whassup, dude"

"get the fuchs away stupid kitty cat"

That's comic gold there.

He was correct. The cougar was a mother with several kittens, hence the high level of aggressiveness.

Really dude?

I have no idea what the experts say, but I would have been inclined to pick up one of those many hand size rocks, and started pitching. Of course than I would have to put down the cell phone.

And why go for a hike alone? I guess he does not have a single buddy to use the buddy method of hiking.

I bet that was a 6 minute long adrenaline rush.

Yes dude. He saw what were obviously mountain lion cubs, pulled out his phone and kept moving towards them. Dude.

He is lucky it was a cougar and not a mama bear and cubs. He would be bear food.

No, I think by now he’d be bear ****.

I thought the same thing as you did, he passed by an endless supply of really good rocks. Put the stupid phone away, pick up a ****ing rock, problem solved.

The article states that he tried several times, but cougars are more likely to attack or advance on "prey" that crouches or goes to ground.

I don't see that in the video.

At what time mark did he ID them as cougars and advance on them??

Yes. You want to stay big and not aggressive looking. Crouching down could be taken as a threat pose.

Did I hear him say "where's my gun" at around 3 minutes?

Technically, he was right. He just didn't think that through to it's logical conclusion. I suppose he's lucky it wasn't a bear. I think they are more of a maul first ask questions later sort of species.

I was thinking the same tihng.

1 If he crouched down, and looked like he was the size of the cat, it may have pounced. So it may have been better that he didn't.

2 I would have at least been kicking sand, rocks, gravel from the path at the mom.

He wasn't hiking, he was going for a jog, presumably someplace that he regularly goes for a jog.
