My biggest problem is falling asleep. I'm usually chronically sleep deprived. So I'd say any sort of lullaby type music is a must avoid. I find that audio books work best for me. I'll recommend Andrew Yang's "The War On Normal People". I listened to this for a drive from Tahoe to Portland. Is a crap ton of information, that is all accurate, and very alarming, which kept me awake - and alarmed - for many hours.

I had no air conditioning in my 914 and I often drove at night to stay a ton cooler for road trips. That song and album also never got played in the car again. I do have the actual vinyl album. |
Damn near got a ticket for this one!

Beach Boys...shut down. Total BS because a 413 Dodge Max wedge would eat a 327 fuelie stingray for lunch, but it works for producing a lead right foot.

Alright ya bunch of old bastages! Beastie Boys Sabotage. Follow that up with Metallica Enter Sandman and you've got a pedal to the metal double whammy! Toss in GNR Welcome To The Jungle and you've got the perfect storm for getting a speeding ticket. Toss in Living Colour Cult Of Personality and ya might as well just drive to jail, drive straight to jail, do not pass go....

Don't Stop Me Now. Queen.
Yeah Highway Star too. I mean, even Smoke on the Water will probably do me in. Maybe "I Think I'm Paranoid" by Garbage only because it was on the Gran Turismo soundtrack on PS1. :) This Charming Man. The Smiths. Or at least, I like it as driving music. |
I'm not sure I can limit this to one set of music. Here's what I remember listening to when I discovered my used-to-be-frequent cross-state trips were an hour or so shorter drive time than they should have been:
The soundtrack to Akira The whole Beastie Boys "License to Ill" album Zeppelin Golden Earring (especially if listening to "Radar Love" at night) AC/DC |
Funny how people date themselves when stuff like this comes up...
And thrash metal usually makes my foot go down. Argue amongst yourselves whether that’s enjoyment or to get away. |
Rage Against the Machine is extremely dangerous for driving.

I would respectfully add Rammstein. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/IX1WybaDVaU" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/IjGNTqAW58E?start=35" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
