Is 5G going to kill us?

Reading some places it might. Are microwaves that bad? Can it be used as a weapon?

island911 10-17-2020 10:21 AM

The wifi router in your house is likely using the same spectrum.

Is it bad if the service providers put up a neighborhood wifi router?

I mean, other than being ugly.

wildthing 10-17-2020 11:09 AM

I mean, a hundred years ago we didn't have that much RF radiation exposure, but we had other problems. So I guess we're trading polio, malaria, etc. for cancer...

But I don't think any such study of long term effects of exposure to those levels of radiation have been performed. Mice only live so long.

All risks are relative. 5G has the same risk as using a cell phone while pumping gas has of starting a fire. 5G also has fewer adverse health events claimed than there are of claims that heavy use of current cell phones causes brain cancer.

RWebb 10-17-2020 01:20 PM

vaccines gonna kill ya befo the 5G rots yer brain

MRM 10-17-2020 03:44 PM

Yes, I’d say vaccines are in the ballpark of 5G for risk, but just slightly more risky. Going to 5G will probably double the occurrences of brain cancer attributable to cell phone use. Maybe there’s a synergistic effect between cell phones, 5G and vaccines.

Some of the early phones put out so much power that they could indeed cook portions of your brain. Not so much now, I think.

There are some great alt-Right conspiracy theories on 5G.

5G causes CV19, it actually carries CV19 and infects you with the radio waves
5G kills birds and plants
5G is the activator of CV19

I think there are more but these are the most common.

The only thing that sucks about 5G is that it uses a lot of energy so Apple decreased chip power consumption and therefore speed of its new iPhone 12 because they were too cheap to put real batteries in the phones.

3 Watts? Please. The original car cell phones (and bag phones) were 3 watts. The old CB radios were 4 Watts.

The standard output from an amateur radio Handie Talkies is 5 Watts. My 2m car transceiver is 45 Watts. My original 10m radio in my car was 300 Watts.

Most cellphones today put out about 100-600 mW.

If I remember correctly, the Chinese flick a 5g switch and we all die of covid.

2.4Ghz band is the non licensed band for good reason, it's rather useless for good Rf transmission because it's the resonant frequency of water, and as such much of the energy transmitted will be absorbed by water in the air, yet still good for heating food in a microwave (if the food has water in it).

Are GHz frequencies bad for people? 100% yes, the debate is at what power density and the FCC defines a level. Standing near/close a 100kW radio tower is not good. Standing inside your microwave will boil you to death.

We are bombarded by freq all the time coming from space, yet we still live.

I love hearing all these 5G conspiracies...seems like all they did was replace "smart meter" with "5G" and they didn't even have to come up with new ones!

GH85Carrera 10-18-2020 07:05 AM

One of the many idiots I have worked with over the years was on chick tha refused to use a microwave oven to heat anything. She had heard someone use the phrase "nuke the food" and she was convinced her food would be radioactive. I tried to convince her that yes, it is electromagnetic radiation, but they is nothing AT ALL like nuclear radiation. She was not convinced, and I did not care anymore. People lived without microwave ovens for many millenniums and she would too.

And to be on record, I am not even a little bit concerned about 5G, or smart meters, or chemtrails. It is all just BS to sell advertising and junk to idiots.

Anything man creates and does, is usually bad for us, from food to Rf to Freons.

Freon 410a is approx 20x worse than r22 in green-house effect! But 410a won't kill the ozone. It's all bad.

To live in a cleaner world, breeder reactors to get 'H' from sea water is the only meaningful way fwd currently. Forget all the EV crap because is solar is the way to charge EV then everyone better start sleeping 8am-to-5pm.

You've met my sister.

I did not know you knew my sister. Yes, my parents bought her a very expensive microwave oven about 1978. She gave it away because someone told her it made the food radioactive.

I have a 5g cell, but the town's towers aren't 5g... guess no cancer for me

RWebb 10-18-2020 12:16 PM

what we really need is a cell phone that will nuke the conspiracy believers

and... POW !!

wdfifteen 10-18-2020 05:10 PM

The upside is you can stick a hot dog on a fork and hold it up just about anywhere and it will be cooked in 30 seconds.

jyl 10-18-2020 07:33 PM

And the year-round tan!

I'm a 5G skeptic but not for safety reasons, rather for range and penetration reasons. I read a white paper by Ericsson about the spacing of small cells necessary for high bandwidth 5G in every house of a typical neighborhood, even assuming each house has a rooftop antenna, they needed a small cell on every block. I think that for the next several years, in all but the densest city, 5G will just be a marketing term for 4.01G.
