World Series 2020

Dodgers and Rays now tied up - 2 games each.

What a freaking end to tonight's game!!!

McLovin 10-24-2020 08:34 PM

I’ll say.
Was that 2 walkoff errors on the same play to end the game?
That’s probably never happened in a World Series.

Here it is for those who missed it........

I did not see the game live so I watched the extensive recap this morning. And thanks, BAZ!

I hope baseball execs understand how much fun baseball can be when there are base-runners and plays in the field.

Analytics have destroyed baseball as a viewing experience.

First thing I'd do is eliminate the shift.

The Dodgers are a bit of a conundrum for me: I am a life-long SF Giants fan but went to a lot of Dodger games at Chavez as a kid...even played catch after a game with Wes Parker.

It was a much simpler time.

I would like to see Kershaw do well in game 5 because he seems like a good guy.

Dude. These don't go together. I too am a lifelong Giants fan and would love to see Kershaw choke again. I'm sure he's a good guy, but he's a Dodger, so...

Of course, I've never even been to Chavez Ravine. I always lived in Giants territory and batted against Gaylord Perry when I was in 8th grade. He showed up on a weekend at our school in Portola Valley while we were playing a pick-up game. He asked if he could pitch. We said hell yeah. I roped a double off him into left center. He didn't give me his best stuff, or even a spit ball; it was a batting practice pitch. But at least I can say I hit a double off a Hall of Famer.

That last play of game 4 was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

I think viewership might go up, given the level of play that's developing in this series.

Instead of eliminating the shift, batters should learn to spray the ball to any part of the field. Then the shift will go away.

Scott Douglas 10-25-2020 07:34 AM

That was one of the best games I've ever watched, even though the Dodgers blew it in the end.

If hitters could learn to 'hit' instead of swinging for the fences all the time the shift would go away naturally.

That was a great game, my son and I really enjoyed watching it.

Baz 10-25-2020 08:00 AM

MLB left me 27 years ago.

The greed and then the steroids.....ruined it - for me.

I still loved the game so just watched college.

Slowly returning - MLB is on probation for now.

That game last night was a building block.

They have a ways to go.

We'll see.

Most of the games I saw as a kid at Chavez were Giant games in the mid 60's into the 70's. That and every years we'd wear our LL uniforms to a a game, sit in the Troposphere and laugh and giggle.

When I got my DL, the Ravine was a great date site. I kid you not.

They are not taught to hit and spray anymore. It is all launch angles and homers. The shift has killed that.

A good friend of mines daughter works in analytics for the Yankees...get on board the analytics bus or forget about making the Majors. They are not asking.

Baseball, my favorite sport to play, is a mind numbing exercise in sameness: Watching pitching, strike out and home runs is not my thing. There is zero tension. I did not watch a single live inning this year for the first time.

Anyway, thanks again Baz...I enjoyed watching the whole inning.

I think hitters need to adjust to the shift. I feel like Tony Gwynn in his heyday would totally expose the shift. On second thought they would never shift against a hitter like Gwynn or Wade Boggs.

I can't help thinking that too.
My son was coached by Tony at SDSU. He even pitched to him during practice. Said it was amazing how he could call pitches, as they were pitched to him and say where he was going to place the ball when hit.

Lovin - I don't think they called an error on the catcher - just the outfielder. So only 1 error.

Found this however:

Game 4 was the third walk-off win by a team that trailed entering the bottom of the ninth in the past 15 World Series. The other two? Game 6 in 2011, the "David Freese" game for the Cardinals, and Game 1 in 2015, which ended on an Eric Hosmer sac fly in the bottom of the 14th after Alex Gordon hit a game-tying home run in the ninth. The Rays are the first team to win a nine-inning World Series game in which they trailed entering the bottom of the ninth since the Diamondbacks won Game 7 of the 2001 World Series.

Ray's pitching tonight.......

Final score: 4-2.

Dodgers take a 3-2 advantage in the series.

Dodgers gutted that one out tonight.

(I don’t know if you heard it, but they clarified during tonight’s game that it was also an error on the catcher last night).

That makes more sense since that miss by the catcher actually allowed the winning run to score. Otherwise it would have just been a tie game. Glad they got it right.

Congrats to the Dodgers......2020 World Series winners.

Was hoping for a game 7 - but wasn't meant to be......

McLovin 10-27-2020 09:21 PM

The Rays were a very very good team, but the dodgers were a great team. One of the all time best imo.
That offense just could not be stopped for 9 innings. They were eventually going to get you.

FIFY SmileWavy

And I was hoping for a potential game 8 and 9...
