PS4 or Xbox driving sim
Considering a driving sim setup for myself and kids (6 and 8 years old) to pass the winter. We don't have a gaming system so this will do double duty for them.
Figure 1500-2000 budget or so. Wheel/Pedals/Shifter seems easy enough. (Logitech) I would like to add a VR headset and given the budget, playstation seems to be the best choice. Any suggestions of Playstaion vs Xbox? I also can't figure if I need a PS4, PS4 plus or the upcoming PS5 Any attempt at research leads me down a rabbit hole that ends with a 10K+ pricepoint and a huge thing sitting in the living room. Thanks |

(bad advice here
![]() GPL 2020 Demo Free. All the tracks in the world. Requires some tweaking to add tracks and cars. Unfortunately it has a very steep learning curve. Even dad will get frustrated until he gets into the instinctual groove and gets hooked. It will make him a better driver in real life. Not for kids...unless they just like driving and learning tracks. Definitely need a wheel/pedals to play this game.

John, there are lots of great racing games and sims on PC, but I don't think GPL is available for PS or Xbox.

I like PS. Gran Turismo series has been a mainstay. I have a Thrustmaster T300RS wheel & pedals. Works great.

I built this over the summer for myself and my two boys (7&13).
The setup is home built for $100 in materials, you can find a seat at a junk yard etc. the expensive parts were the Logitech wheel and pedals and a used PS4 Pro. Total cost was less than a grand. It’s a lot of fun, but my kids prefer to play Fortnite. ![]() |

Just bought a Dell Alienware pc, 49" ultrawide monitor and fanatec wheel/pedals. it is ridiculous. don't have a proper sim cockpit yet so won't bother with pics.
btw for those on pc the game 'wreckfest' is a total hoot.

I think PS has had some kind of falling out with Grand Turismo. No longer available on the PS Store or supported on PS Network that I can tell so you need to find a CD version of GT4 or 5 and play old school (still good, but a bit dated by today’s standards).
I know the Xbox guys rave about Forza but I haven’t messed with it myself and my kids only have the PS so... |

Jimmy Broadbent has some good YT videos.
Some good ones out there: Wreckfest, Dirt Rally, BeamNG, iRacing, Assetto Corsa (Yellowbird at the Ring wow), more (just slightly better than what we grew up with) ![]()
