Hospital was a ghost town

Just went for a check-up on my shoulder for another cortisone shot. I saw maybe 10 people the entire time I was there. Nice having an elevator all to yourself.

Did they make you wear a mask the entire time?

Wife and I just got back from the (recently renovated) HOAG ER in Irvine. Nobody in the parking lot except staff cars, nobody in the lobby, nobody in the outside waiting area - total ghost town.

I started a new "experimental" kidney drug during the covids, so I have been going to our hospital bi-weekly, then monthly for lab work. It is completely empty every time.

One positive is that I am in and out in a jiffy.

And yes, mask and temperature taken going in the door.

the family doctor department is a ghost town..i had to email a pic to my doctor. they go to great lengths to do what they can over the net. taking a pic of my butthole, maybe i shouldnt have been in the front yard. but the lighting was way better there.

On-line health care (virtual doctor visits) has grown more in 8 months than it has in the last 8 years.

At our hospital we have two walk thru temp scanning stations located at the entry doors to scan you as you walk in. We still ask if you feel sick or have traveled recently but they keep the traffic moving without having to stop and take forehead temps.

And I think it's going to stay that way. Personally I like it for follow ups and small stuff that you don't need to be poked and prodded. Besides, most people have been self diagnosing with internet searches anyway, it adds a layer of "peace of mind" to get a professional second opinion.

When i was donating PPE to the local hospital during the shutdown (so we wouldn't lose our allocation once we were back) it was always a ghost town when I'd roll up. Heck, the only other people there were the local businesses dropping off sandwiches, burritos, lattes, etc.

Actually the people dropping off free stuff became a problem. We don't have people just standing around waiting for you to bring free stuff to us. People show up with 10 pizzas. OK thanks but now what do we do with them. You can't call a nurse down off a floor to carry them back. All our volunteers that would normally handle stuff like this aren't here.

Have heard similar reports from my friends with family members that work in hospitals.

But we had (have) to flatten the curve; By closing hospitals, canceling appointments and scheduled procedures - some essential to patients' survival.

gangrene....strokes...diabetes shock...kidney failures..

didn't want to bother..didn't think it was...
none of our Hospitals ever approached..
'turn away..as we are full'''
yet this was & is sold every night ..
and Hospital Adm. are pissed..
as folks are losing life and limb meantime..
and Hospital's revenue...

Hospitals by their nature are ghost towns.

I have often wondered about the old hospital I was born in back in Chicago being converted to condominiums. You could never be too sure what might be under the bed, or pop out of the closet. Living there wouldn't be my cup of tea...

My wife has worked for 2 large hospital systems during covid, no real shortage of PPE, or vents, or beds ever.
