Girly.

Many years ago I was going to buy a Vespa. However, they were pretty expensive running $5-$10 thousand. Then one day I saw a guy on one and said to my self "thank god I didn't get one, that guy looks ridiculous". I guess I'm vain. I still wouldn't mind having one (for my sister).

I bought this instead: (actually, both of these)

best urban commuter is the scooter. weather permitting. imho.

dafischer 10-29-2020 09:39 AM

Scooters and fat girls...both fun to ride, but you wouldn't want your friends to see you on one.

911boost 10-29-2020 09:40 AM

You get just as effed up crashing a scooter as a motorcycle and for some reason every single person I see on a scooter has zero protective gear on.

I think it looks like a girls scooter, this isn't the 60's in the UK.

vash 10-29-2020 09:41 AM

scooters can be fun, but no thanks. the tiny diameter tires are a nightmare around bumpy corners..and it feel really odd riding with my feet together like that. probably very handy to keep your skirt from blowing up and showing the world your "hay-nanu-nanu"

Starless 10-29-2020 11:13 AM

He could always turn it into this.....

O.k., its actually pretty cool. Scooters are a blast in the right place. A few weekends in Key west, or if I lived in a downtown setting, Id be all over one . I used to haul mine on vacation with me, and would buzz all over the place looking like dumb and dumber .
Live to ride, ride to live !

Where I am now is dead flat, all smooth , and straight.

I just ordered one.

GF bought a Honda PCX150 scooter. She works in town so the appeal of free parking and (very!!!) low fuel costs made it a good idea. Typical Honda reliability and build quality.

Rot 911 10-29-2020 12:16 PM

I’ve got a 1980 Vespa P100 sport that I probably ride around town more than any of my other motorcycles. It’s just fun. Two-stroke and kickstart.

I've looked at them before and came close to buying one on CL but ultimately decided I didn't really have the room right now for another bike.

I was looking at the vintage Honda Helix's - those are pretty cool and modernistic looking.

I see those around here from time to time. There seem to be endless mods available.

porsche930dude 10-29-2020 01:24 PM

Grom clones are about that price and very good not girly. But I think they are hard to get now. I had a yamaha champ i rode for 2 or 3 years and put a few thousand miles on it. I really liked exploring backroads and going offroad with it was way too sketchy in town with traffic around. As long as he uses it regularly and doesnt let it sit or leave it outside it will last just fine. I have a honda spree in the shed but it has no papers and its pretty unreliable http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604002607.jpg

asphaltgambler 10-29-2020 01:30 PM

My wife wants one but with enough power to ride into town. So 150CC at least seems to be the requirement. We looked into several of the vintage Vespa 'look-a-like' machines and they are not only pricey new, seem to command more than a few dollars used for a good unit.

We put that toy on hold until Spring...……..

I would ride a Honda Ruckus any day over the OP's suggestion, it has to do with retaining my man card. In the meantime, I will continue to ride my Kawasaki KLR 250 !

This is the honder PCX150 I mentioned earlier. I think she spends $3 a week on fuel. Haha, it actually handles quite well having it's weight down low.

I used to work with a guy that commuted on something that looked a lot like that. The crazy thing is that we worked on the "beltway" in Houston, so he was riding on a tollway with cars going 70-90mph.

porsche930dude 10-29-2020 02:55 PM

yeah my boss has a yamaha majesty 400cc looks like that its fast he raced my freinds ninja 250 and smoked him and he weighs 100 pounds more

Haha, nothing like living dangerously. I had her scooter on the motorway and I thought it would do it good to have some sustained high rev's so I had it full on the gas. It sounded just like an idling Honda generator mentioned in the other thread "doof doof doof" but it was doing 75mph. And sounded exactly what it did idling around town.

Another cool thing about scooters is if you temporarily park it on the footpath people don't mind/seem to ignore it. But if you parked a motorbike on the footpath...

It is a disposable , but it’s 1499, delivered.
I might use it a 100 miles a year, so I think it’s a deal

People actually respect bikes and whatever, and do their best to avoid killing anyone, for the most part.

Duh..As I am typing this, I realized I can ride it along the beach..3 blocks away.

I’m good with a small tight snazzy two tone

You deserve better.

Also, buying disposable crap encourages them to make more disposable crap.

look 171 10-30-2020 01:35 AM

I have been looking at those Honda Ruckus. My plan is to put one at my job site. We do a bit in the city and for the guys to drive out and get screw(s) (ha?) or small items to finish the job so that they don't take an hour sitting in traffic then spend another looking for parking. They look sturdy enough to have a steel rack welded to the back or a girly basket for construction goods. My jobs now are normally no longer then 15 miles from my house. I may end up riding it myself. Why don't they put a bigger engine in that damn thing? 50 cc is too small and slow to get our of trouble, 100 or 150 would be best. When I was in China, I saw these scooters that are long and they actually use it like a small truck to transport goods around. All electric too. That's when I came up with the idea of having one at the job site.

This thing https://mdsscooter.en.made-in-china.com/product/tXJEBAuGuVpq/China-Adult-Electric-Scooter-for-Food-Delivery.html GAs engine would be better in N America

look 171 10-30-2020 01:36 AM

Ziggy, get this and shut them up from calling you girlyhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604046942.jpg

Bigtoe32067 10-30-2020 02:10 AM

I personally don’t think it’s girly. I spent 2 months in the summer of 2014 in Italy with a bunch of Italian friends and they all rode scooters and in fact the girl I was seeings ex boyfriend owned a dealership for scooters and whatever those tiny little microcars built by Mercedes were called and believed it or not he loaned me a scooter for the two months while I was there and beyond being super fun they’re very necessary for getting between traffic and navigating tiny streets.
I’d only get one here if I lived in a congested downtown area and it would be a Ruckus.
I had one as a pit bike years ago when I was racing motorcycles and it was a blast.

So Mrs Gambler really likes the vintage / retro look - of course then limits the choices considerably.
