Really spectacular!
|
I saw this on a facebook group the other day. I've always been attracted to unusual chess sets. This one is really something.

I met a guy at a woodworking show a week or so ago, he makes end grain cutting boards etc..
We actually talked about chessboards https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/c...6D?format=750w The one you pictured has to be quite heavy |

Since this is the 'woodworking' thread, if you aren't subscribed already 'Stumpynubs' on YouTube makes interesting 8-19 minute videos every week.

I thought this was a good one. <iframe width="1280" height="720" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0Ty31NV5LQ0" title="Watch this before letting a child into your workshop!" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
These videos crack me up. I didn't watch the whole video. I think about 30 secs worth. I clicked several random spots. No narration or speech or other info. Sure, she's cute, but otherwise, what's the point?

Yes, Greg is an interesting guy. At school he was always very formal. Freshly ironed shirts, well behaved, a stickler for the rules.
Then he got a major bang on the head. He became completely the opposite, and very much the opposite. Then he headed off to upstate NY where he worked with a guy making large fancy clocks. After that he move to NYC and to Paris where he did wild and extreme makeovers of apartments for the celebrity types. After many years of the lifestyle he came back to NZ and started making furniture. Dated my suister for a while but Greg was too crazy for even her. Now he's just making amazing stuff and has moderated his lifestyle considerably LOL |
Sounds like an interesting guy!
|
Yeah, smart funny and talented. He, rather modestly, put his talents down to building wooden boats with his dad. He said if you can build a boat you can build anything.
|
Got the legs mounted, fixed some flaws in the finish that bothered me, but that probably no one else would ever notice
Then the GF mentioned that the chairs were natural wood, and would look better satin black... I pointed out that the table, which is the focal point is natural wood.... You know how this turned out.. I'm pleased with the results.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1728511522.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1728511522.jpg |
Very nice! And super portable! :D

Had to wait for the sun to dip to get a decent pic..

Tim T; it looks fa-boo!. And your girlfriend made a good call on the chairs. The black works perfectly with the table base.
(You could have also painted them the darkest blue in 'the river'; that would have been nice, too, but either way you have a work of art there.) |
