Pizza Guy Delivers Problems

Tuesday the neighbors got a pizza delivered. When I got home that evening around 8 my mailbox was laying in the street. I had my neighbor check his security camera and saw the pizza guy hit the mailbox with the passenger rear view mirror causing it to fall.

My neighbor sent me his electronic receipt and the camera footage. I took this to the Papa Johns and spoke to the assistant to the assistant manager. He said they would get the insurance information from the driver. My reply was that 50 bucks in pizza would be all the compensation needed and that I would fix it myself.

AAM told me that his manager would be calling me after they spoke. I never heard from the manager.

They need to man up.

Around here that would qualify as a hit and run. IANAL but I think damaging a mailbox could also be considered a federal offense. I would call the store and mention this to them and that you are planning on showing the footage to the police.

Call him one more time. Then send a letter to him and corporate.

We had a pizza delivery guy that looked like he was 10 or 12 but I presume he was 16 to be driving. Anyway he decided to back up into our driveway. He smacked into our dry stack rock wall for the flower garden. It knocked off one rock, and moved another. It tore up his mom's minivan bumper.

My security system camera showed hit clearly, the tag was easily readable, and the pizza store name was on the roof. I had him dead to rights. The only damage to the wall was fixed by putting the rock back in place in 10 seconds or less. It put scuff on one of the stones, but it is just a old flat stone, and only cave it more character.

I just let it go. I bet the kid claimed someone else hit the car while it was parked. At least it might teach him a lesson to be careful while backing up. His mom's minivan will get more damage with him driving.

Papa Johns may not be liable here. The law is unclear from my brief readings, somewhat involves the agreement between the driver and the company. Some google machine results talk about the drivers private insurance be on the hook, others talk about the company.

I really don't want to eff around with this but dang it, there is a principal involved. Can't just let this go.

Maybe speak to the actual delivery person. If the repair is a couple of hundred bucks he may want to just pay it himself and avoid the insurance increase. Also reach out to the actual owner of the franchise he should be more responsive then the manager, there is a good chance that he never even informed the owner of the accident.

I agree, you shouldn't just 'let it go'.
Call the manager. Give him a chance once you let him know it's not going away by him ignoring it.

Years ago my neighbor across the street taught piano lessons and every once in a while a student's parent would hit my mailbox. After getting annoyed the first time, I realized mailboxes are cheap, easy to replace, and they're probably old, ugly and ready to be replaced by the time they get hit so I just let it go.

My mailbox is a LARGE brick enclosure. It is very well built. One the kids visiting my across the street neighbors smacked it hard, and crumpled up his car, and crushed in the metal mailbox surrounded by the bricks. The kid came to the door, and confessed and said he would pay for the damage.

I had to hire a brick layer to take apart the top of the brick structure just to get the old metal mail box out. It was not built to be easily replaced. I cut the back of the metal mailbox off and then we placed the new mailbox in place and used caulk to seal up the cut. He had to rebuild mailbox top.

Finding a brick layer to do a little job is a pain. The kid came back and I gave him the bill, and he paid me back with check #0100. His mom opened an checking account just for him to write checks. It was the first check he ever wrote. At least his parents taught him to take responsibility for his actions. I shook his hand and told him I appreciate his honesty.

Glen, That is a good story about good kids and the parents that raise them.

I am not sure if the character of the characters that I am dealing with will be similar.

The delivery guy is probably a private contractor making $15 per hour, so....

Great story!

I would call the manager and remind him. Keep calling until they agree to the $50 pizza voucher. Then let it go.

How true. My parents would have done the exact same thing, DID he exact same thing.

Here is what I would insist upon: An apology from the driver. Nothing dramatic, just a look in my eyes and an apology.

Do that and we are square...

If he can't manage that, I'd launch the Alert 5 and become a huge pain in the a$$ legally. I don't care what the kid makes an hour. That is not the problem.

Their choice.

It was a bit sneaky of him to not say anything and drive off. And rude of the company to offer you some pizzas as a form of compensation.

Yep $5,000, but will settle for half that if it's kept out of court and won't mention the pizza company name to the TV company who love a story like this.

Don't opt' for the free pizza for a year counter offer or it will be the end of you

Asking for more than is deserved goes against the morals and values I was raised with. That would not sit well with my conscience, YMMV.

Asking for free pizza invites them to add a little something to the pie that you would not appreciate.

What should be reasonable and expected is for your mailbox to be returned to it's previous condition, and for the perpetrator to pay his debt to society for breaking the law.

Is it a franchise or corporate store? Papa John's probably has a complaint number to call. I'd try that. If you still get nothing, then let it go and don't buy from them anymore.

I'd just let it slide............asking for free pizza to make the problem go away seems sort of extortion.
