i have a grand cherokee limited. 2017 with 70k. it’s needed nothing but tires and now needs brakes. by far it’s the best vehicle i’ve owned in my 34 years of owning and driving automobiles.

I would imagine it's hard to get wives to agree on any one vehicle.
How many wives does he have?

Haha damnit..

Good catch, stupid typing

Acura MDX

you guys gonna laugh. Range Rover Sport diesel. Have 75k no real issues. Infotainment system kinda sucks but the after market took care of that. Four trips from AZ to Laguna over the past 3 months. 25mpg, quiet, torque monster. Find an '18 with a CPO

We have three cars and two drivers. The El Camino is for hauling stuff, the Macan is for hauling people, and the 911 is for hauling ass. ;)

Home Depot rents pickups for a few hours for cheap. Way cheaper than owning one for sure if you only use it on occasion.

If I have something big and bulky or dirty to move I rent a trailer and pull it with the Elky.

It sounds like you've found the Golden Ticket. The one ultra-reliable Range Rover. They just built the one, and if you got it, then you will be the next CEO.

The nearest HD or Lowes are ~1 hour away. I'd used the rental when we lived in our old home in the 'burbs and it was <1 mile from our home.

We also don't have 3 vehicles, we've just got the one, and it's only got 2 seats (not like your 911 with it's super roomy 4 seats)

We need something to carry 4 people (like the macan) which could also haul some stuff with the seats folder down or towing a small trailer.

I did buy an extended warranty to 120k

We had a break in the rain today, so went out to drive a couple of vehicles. Turns out the rain stopped just long enough for us to get ready and get half way there. I drove a 2018 Outback with the 3.6L H6 and a crosstrek. Then I drove an Audi Q5, then a Merc GLC300 then an AMG GLC43.

Audi Q5 vs Merc GLC300. Both are 250hp 4cyl. The Audi was sportier, but the Merc was more comfy. Since this would be for the missus, more comfy would win. The Outback has a 250hp 3.6L flat 6 and was pretty nice. It wasn't as plush as the Mercedes or sporty as the Audi, but it had a bunch of safety features which appealed to the missus and looked nice (and wasn't white, silver, gray or black [all with black interiors]) and was reasonably comfy.

The AMG GLC43, ~360hp twin turbo V-6. Yowza, faster 0-60 than my Boxster S according to the magazines. It was comfy and sporty and at $42k wasn't that expensive. That's awfully tempting, although not entirely practical.

The Crosstrek was slow, but not nearly as slow as I expected.

I'd love a Macan, but the Macans are harder to find and more expensive than the rest, and based on what I've read, they are more sport focused than the Audis, so they'd probably be great for me, but the missus is less sport and more comfy and safety focused than I am. For her, the requirements are probably 1 Safe, 2 Comfy, 3 Sporty.

Nothing concrete, just thoughts on a few test drives.

We'll have to drive a couple/few again more extensively, preferably on a day that's not dark and rainy.

We may look at a Grand Cherokee and Wrangler 4dr and highlander just to satisfy her curiosity and mine.

Steve, Have you considered an F-150 crew cab or Ranger Crew cab?

This is primarily going to be the missus' vehicle. She's not interested in a truck.

mattdavis11 11-27-2020 05:22 PM

Your wife needs to drive the MDX.

There’s a reason we own two AMGs.:)

My neighbor and car buddy has a nearly new MDX that’s his wife’s car, I have several hours driving it when we’ve been car shopping. I found it to be entirely ordinarily, pedestrian, and boring. Totally unremarkable in every way.

And both are not SUV's. Boring is fine by me if the job gets done.

True, but if the missus says she wants an AMG, definitely could do worse than an AMG one. I’m lucky to have talked my wife down from the “I want to sit up high” thing after an abundance of SUVs. Now she realizes how pointless they are.

red-beard 11-28-2020 06:37 AM

With country place, you need a pickup
