Test those $25 work platforms from Home Depot!
I bought two of the $25 work platforms from Home Depot the other day. I don’t think it has any bearing on it, but I shortened the legs by 7 inches and when I stepped on it and walked to the end today, the leg flared out. 😳
Looking at the locking mechanism, you can see the end of the metal pin is beveled and does not engage the one leg much. Maybe 3/16 or 1/4”. The stamped steel part of the leg, has a second hole and the metal gave way, connecting the two. Now the plan is to disassemble it and beef up the stamped steel area with additional metal or weld some washers for the pin. I have the week off, so it’s a good time to piddle around with this. Edit: yes I’m within the weight limit 😂 Edit 2: I guess if I wanted a working platform I needed to pay $50... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yowza! Thank goodness you weren't trying to lift something big and heavy over your head or something.
reliable, sturdy, cheap, pick any two. (or something like that )

A latch let loose on my little giant ladder this summer. I stayed on, but it was a pucker moment . I actually think I somehow did not have it fully locked , its kind of beat up , and I use it like a platform like yours .

I find it hard to believe that just walking to the end did that. I'll bet it was deformed from the factory.

If you could collapse a leg on another identical stand..
You'd have a cool set of wheel ramps for your car |

I'll check mine out tomorrow.
I'll put my ambulance chaser lawyer friend on speed dial.

The design of those offered at Northern tool that I linked on the original thread is different. I own two of them.
The link to the style I've got: https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200664784_200664784 They've got a swivel bracket with a clip that engages on the leg to lock it in place.

I got the itty-bitty one from the Harbor, cut the legs 4” shorter and it functions as an excellent step for the RV. It has the safety clips.
