One thing that is different is that I have the pc laying on its side so the hd ishorizontal vs its usual vertical orientation.

Well once again I am flumoxed by the computer.
It has booted several times now, no problem, with the hood closed so to speak.
Guess I will call it good until the next time it isnt.
Thanks for the help guys.

OK, back at this AGAIN.
This morning the computer wouldn't boot. It turned on, could here the fan running but it was like the HD was stuck and not reading the disc. It sits at a screen that has the ACER logo and the Press DEL for bios etc at the bottom of the screen. But pressing those buttons did nothing.
So I broke it all down ie disconnected it from the setup I have on my wife's desk and hauled it into the living room where I could work on it. I set up a spare monitor/keyboard/mouse and plugged it in.
Pressed the button and the dang thing booted up first try no problem.
It got kind of cold in the house last night and I'm thinking the HD got 'stuck' and couldn't/wouldn't spin. The jostling of getting it from the family room to the living room 'unstuck' it and it worked.

I'm thinking of getting another HD for it. How hard would it be for me to 'replicate' the drive that's in there so I don't loose all the programs and files?
