Flashlights for headlights, suspended license and damage to the front. Seems the batteries were about out. Maybe a candidate for a Darwin award

I've driven plenty of crap cars including some with front end damage. I always managed to rig up an actual headlight if required.

we used a flashlight for headlights in west Texas one time - 4 teen boys headed out fer adventure in an old Ford van with a bad generator

I was traveling thru W Va on my old R80RT. After night fall someone yelled that my tail was dark. So I duct taped my snake light to the rear cargo deck and nearly made it to the motel I had booked when I got stopped. The officer was nice enough to let me leave since the motel was only a few kliks away. He did say "you beemer guys are full of tricks aren't you?".
