Temporarily Protecting A Wood Floor

There is a large wooden ballroom dance floor that I want to make available for other uses (exhibits, parties, music, exercise, etc) without worrying about damage to the floor. Big floor, like 2500 sf (?). I am thinking of some covering we could unroll over the floor, then roll up and store in the basement. Anyone know about this stuff?

Our school gym just rolls out so,e sort of 5-7mil vinyl when people are going to be using it with non athletic shoes.
