Apple Charger Cables

Has anyone found a charging cable for iPhones that isn’t trash? I seem to go through a ten or more a year.

I will admit that I’m rough on the cords and I have been buying based on lowest price but i didn’t think spending an twice as much on a pack of cords would give me a better product but it seems so wasteful to throw all these cords out, never mind the frustration of looking for a working cord.

I have a wireless charging base but it won’t charge through my case and on heavy use days, I’ll go through 3 full charges so I need something I can use on the go.

Just my opinion but the original from Apple is the best but that's not saying much.

But you must grab the plug to pull it out of the phone. Never pull on the cable only.

I’ve had really good luck with the braided 90 degree aftermarket ones. The apple ones aren’t durable.

How do yours fail. Is it the cord that breaks or do the contacts burn out? Until recently I've never had a cord break, but I've had the contacts burn out LOTS of times.

That could be dirt and dust inside the port on your phone.

About once a year, I drop the phone or Ipad and the tip just shears off. That’s certainly the extreme.

The typical failure is despite ensuring I buy cords with strain relief*, they seem to fail there.

*Thats why I won’t buy the Apple branded cord. No strain relief. I’ve seen the insulation get so much wear due to strain that the insulation breaks and the copper wire is visible.

This exact brand or just this type of cable?

This is what I bought in mid-October and 4 of the 5 cables failed or are failing.

1 of them due to dropping the plugged in phone, obviously that’s on me but the other 3 just stopped working reliably. They will occasionally work if they’re held in just the right way but not reliably.

Lint too if you keep your phone in your pocket or purse. Some close up glasses, a light, and fine tweezers can fix that. I have multiple times with my kids iPhones.

Any issues with the 90 degree cords working with the beefier cases? I have an otterbox on the iPad and fairly thick case on my phone.

I had an Apple cord wear so badly, it started sparking near the male end. No strain relief.

I’ve had good luck with the Anker brand cords.

idk, I use a thin case. I like to prop up phone sometimes while charging, so angle works better for that.

ANKER is the answer

Specifically, I think their Powerline 2/II and above.

They are sold on Amazon. If you read the info on Amazon, some of the Anker stuff has an 18 month warranty. Some of it has a Lifetime Warranty (I'm pretty sure it's the powerline 2 or powerline II). I have used the lifetime warranty (and I felt bad because the cable went bad because my grandson sucked on it and burned out one of the contacts). The cables have serial numbers. They asked for the serial number and then sent me a new cable. The Anker stuff is more substantial than the stuff from Apple.

Yup, Anker is the way to go.
My wife was going thru cables for her phone and tablet like crazy. She has a habit of leaving the cords plugged into the wall (which is an extension cord under the couch in our house) even when the phone or tablet isn't plugged in for charging. Finally got an Anker and all is well now, or has been for quite a while now. We got 'em to use in the car too as they take a real beating there.

Exactly, in the house, in the car, to travel. And You can get them in several lengths and they are about half the price of the Apple cables.

I add heat shrink tubing to each end of the apple cord. Haven't had any more wear issues.
