Value of Stratocaster Signed by Eddie Van Halen?

Here's hoping the OT brain trust can provide some insight as to the current and potential future value of this thing - assuming it checks out as being legit, of course.

I'm not a musician, not into musical instruments and have no idea as to what value I should place on this as part of a trade. If it's real, though, I do think it might be a pretty cool thing to have.

Not sure it's worth a car...

ckcarr 12-16-2020 09:07 AM

It's a Squire.
Guitar on it's own not worth much.

So it's more what a Las Vegas Hard Rock casino might be willing to pay

fastfredracing 12-16-2020 09:12 AM

I just saw somewhere, they were asking 200,000.00 for a JCM 800 Marshall head that belonged to EVH .
' Normally a few thousand $

Hi Norm,
You might take a look on this website and see what they say.
If it is real, who knows what it might be worth.
Good Luck

Thanks. That's pretty much what I've learning during my 30 minutes of internet sleuthing. Primarily, I've discovered that a Squier Stratocaster is most definitely not comparable to a genuine Fender - at least in terms of collectibility.

If nothing else, I now know that a Stratocaster is not a Stratocaster is not a Stratocaster.

Take it to "Pawn Stars."

If it was one of his personal guitars that he used they can go six figures..

You can buy this one for $1288 and signed by Sammy Hagar, Eddie Van Halen, Michael Anthony, and Alex Van Halen. Supposedly authenticated by a 3rd party. Whatever that means.

Whenever they have a contest "Win a guitar autographed by XXXXX !" it's always an electric Squire or Epiphone acoustic.

Cheap guitars, the autograph is worth about as much as if it was on paper. Definitely not worth a car. I'm not sure how much stuff EVH signed, I'm thinking $250-500. You can get Squires for $100-150 new.

Norm K 12-16-2020 09:30 AM

Might just have to admit I'm a car guy who is so unfamiliar with the vagaries of "collectible" autographs and musical paraphernalia that steering clear is very likely my best course of action.

Gogar 12-16-2020 09:42 AM

It's worth the price of an autograph plus $100.

Nostril Cheese 12-16-2020 09:43 AM

Couple hundred at the most.

craigster59 12-16-2020 09:46 AM

Now, I do have a "Semi-Pro" ABA basketball signed by Will Ferrell (one of THE toughest autographs to get) I'll trade for a classic car. :)

Do this. Explain to the person offering it why money was invented, so that you did not have to find someone who needed beaver pelts in order to get a pork chop for dinner tonight. He trades his super valuable guitar for money and then trades you the money for whatever it is of yours that he wants. It’s a brilliant system.

MBAtarga 12-16-2020 10:02 AM

Not worth a car - but definitely worth a LR Disco! :)

speeder 12-16-2020 10:07 AM

Wouldn’t Eddie just sign anyone’s guitar that asked him to? It isn’t worth dick.

Ayles 12-16-2020 10:11 AM

I would usually say not worth dick as well... but here is a SOLD item on ebay.

Just remove the pick guard and throw it up on Ebay. I'd aim for half of this and see if you can nab any takers. This looks to be sold very early after his death and would assume prices will come down quite a bit.

"Owned by," "belonged to" or "played by" are, I think, not remotely the same as "signed by."

If the sig is real, then it probably has increased the value of the guitar some, but it's nothing like if it was a great guitar owned by him or played in some concert or on an album or something.
